Re: Recommend sound card for recording my mixing

There are conversion errors. Every time you go from digital to analog or back there are little mistakes, and some of the mistakes are audible. Plus, while the show is in one or the other, it picks up mistakes that are built-in to the format. When you switch, you pick up the errors of both formats. P...

Re: Weird background noises when recording?

We can't guarantee this is going to work for you. All we can say is you seem to have a very common problem and this is the usual solution.

Two connections. Left and Right. Generally carried by the red and white (or red and black) RCA connections. The reason this advice is so clear and concise is that the problem also very common. Windows Laptops are not designed to record your guitar (other musical instrument). They're designed for cor...

Unless you can find out otherwise, your laptop is designed to do this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg One single microphone. The output of my keyboard is stereo. Two signals, left and right. You can't connect them together, even past the problems of overload and distortion. T...

Re: need advice on ideal recording settings

I was intentionally waiting for another elf to suggest data parameters. I have no good preferences for this. "Noise" is interesting because white noise, by definition is random crap at all frequencies (so to speak). The lumpy one is probably more "natural" than the flat one, but ...

Re: Recording issue-Keyboards,vocal sterile. Bass/guitar mud

Sound On Sound does well, too. http://www.soundonsound.com/ You can certainly record the direct out of a guitar cabinet, but since the wooden cabinet is part of the sound of the guitar, you usually get flat, sterile recordings. It's valid, but different. The microphone in front is good (carefully) b...

Re: Refining sound of usb mike using audacity and windows xp

Post some. Be using Audacity 1.3, Not 1.2. If you're in Audacity 1.2, we're going to chase up to 1.3.13, anyway. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Reduce a sample voice segment to mono if it isn't already. Tracks > Stereo Tracks to Mono. Cut the work down to about four or five seconds. File > Export...

Re: need advice on ideal recording settings

Even though modern music productions are dense and seem to live smashed up against "0," that represents a great deal of theatrical processing in a studio. Live and archival recording doesn't do that. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg This is a nearly perfect live captur...

Re: Recording issue-Keyboards,vocal sterile. Bass/guitar mud

something to give my keyboards Wurlitzer a little room sound for realism? What you have now is real. You want theatrical distortion. Hollywood has this problem all the time. I caught two digital painters in the parking lot criticizing the sunset. "I would not have used that color and the contr...
