Re: Noise when converting vinyl to digital
Just to connect the dots... You can't just plug a classic, high quality turntable into a UCA202. A classic turntable has no RIAA preamplifier like the USB turntables do. The music will be seriously peaky and gutless. The music on vinyl is not perfect. It's intentionally distorted according to some v...

Noise when converting vinyl to digital
I split this into its own topic. Koz This is similar, but different from the Sudden Noise post. My equipment includes: Audacity1.3x (beta), a MacBook with OS 10.4.11, Behringer UFO202 preamp (new) and a Panasonic Techniques SL20 single play turntable with diamond stylus tracking less than 1.5 g (198...

Re: Opening file issue
Audacity will do that to music whose compression it doesn't understand. If you have a two to one compressed music file, Audacity will play it twice as fast. Install and use the FFMpeg software in this note: Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1....

Re: need advice on ideal recording settings
Try it. I know iTunes will cheerfully convert between 48000 and 44100 to manage video sound files, so it should be OK. iTunes uses QuickTime Services and they recognize a broad range of formats. But try it out. Also, iTunes can be used to create compressed versions of the music. Set that in CD > Imp...

Re: Pioneer music centre.
everything is back to normal ! Or maybe not. Are you using Audacity 1.2? Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You...

Re: Seperating Midi tracks from a mp3
Since MIDI is machine control, not sound, I really doubt that's what you have. I think you're trying to separate musical instruments from each other and some were created by MIDI and a keyboard or synthesizer. Audacity has no tools for managing MIDI in any event, and separating musical instruments i...

Re: something like Adobe Audition's spectral analysis?
Some of these tools don't work by painful spectral analysis. Some work by knowing the stereo direction of the instrument. If the trumpets are half-right behind the conductor when you're enjoying the orchestral performance, some software packages can sense that and isolate the performance from the re...

Re: lost file
You have a bunch of work ahead. What is that device/converter -- model numbers? How is it connected? Which version of Audacity -- exactly. Look under Audacity > About. Which Mac and what operating system? Either names or numbers. I'm typing on a MacBook Pro -- Leopard. How long was the show? How muc...

Re: MP3 Exporting
Since you're going to be messing with software, patches, and downloads anyway, this is a delightful time to upgrade to Audacity 1.3. You can leave your old install right there. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer com...
