Re: Distortion on recording to Line in (Win7)

To add even more joy to this, we ran across one machine where you couldn't turn all three off. Background Noise stayed running no matter what.

I guess in those cases, this problem becomes easy. These machines, as they are, can't be used for music.

Re: Distortion on recording to Line in (Win7)

Am I right in thinking that some mic-input drivers will have settings that will help try and bridge that gap (however inadeqautely)? Probably not. It's not a driver issue. If the sound card has no electrical provision to switch out the mic preamplifier or change its volume, than there isn't much yo...

Re: Vocal removal -- using newly recorded vocals?

I read that three times. You want to take apart a song and install your singer in place of the existing singer(s). You made it sound like your singer was performing in a song by accident and needed to be removed. Except in some very rare circumstances, you can't take apart a mixed, stereo performanc...

Re: CRASH - Too many plugins?

And then, assuming Audacity starts working, you still get to figure out which plugins are causing problems. It's possible you can get a condition where two plugins interfere with each other -- the problems only happen when both are installed at once. You may decide you don't need thousands of plugin...

Re: MP3 Exporting

Like it said in the pre-packaged block, older and foreign lame and FFMpeg won't do. You need to install the ones that come with Audacity 1.3.13 in the download page. They're somewhat customized for version. Audacity 1.2 Projects will open in 1.3. Actual sound files, WAV and AIFF open across versions...

Re: Distortion on recording to Line in (Win7)

People are desperately trying to make the difference between Mic-In and Line-In go away, but it's extraordinarily difficult to do. Past one being stereo and the other not, the two signals are very, very different. Pull one of the batteries out of your flashlight/electric torch. Doesn't look very let...

Re: custom made deadcat for large diaphragm mic

Please. It's "Gaffer's Tape." http://www.filmtools.com/ne3pecatap6g.html ...(apparently you can't buy this stuff in London) and "Duct Tape." http://www.3m.com/brands/scotch/toughtape/ Aquatic birds need not apply. Ironically enough, someone did the applied matériel research and p...

Re: Noise when converting vinyl to digital

Maybe we don't need that.

Did you hook up the turntable ground lug? Classic turntables had three wires, not two. There was a thin black wire that formed the shield and ground for the turntable. Without it, the turntable will hum and buzz.

Re: lost file

You probably ran into the ancient software problem. Audacity 1.2 does not get along with Snow Leopard. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://a...

Re: MP3 Exporting

One of the little idiosyncrasies of Audacity. There is a new version coming out shortly and the whole distribution thing will be revamped. In any event, Audacity 1.2 -- even though it's the flagship product -- hasn't been supported in a while, so you have very little choice if you run into problems....
