Re: Audio very low - how to increase?
Genius microphone Can we assume a Genius MIC-01A? Look in your Windows Sound Control Panels and see if you have a [X] 20dB Microphone Boost setting in addition to the regular microphone volume controls. If there is no boost setting, then you have one of the "quiet" sound cards. Audacity h...

Re: reduce size of mp3 files
You can give it a shot, but I don't think you can do it in batch mode. You need to do one at a time -- someone will correct me. Install Audacity 1.3.13 and the Lame software package from the same web page. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Open one of the songs and Export As MP3. Leave the default v...

Re: Quality and volume degrade after a few seconds of record
Windows machines are designed for communications/conference/voice connections, not entertainment recording. Because of that, all the Windows microphone input processing defaults to ON and many times you don't notice it until you try to record your guitar. That's "Auto" or the Echo Cancella...

Re: Help for Newbie
At the top of this forum are three links. The last one, Documentation, will lead you to the instruction books. http://audacityteam.org/help/documentation And yes, this is the whole enchilada as far as support. It is a dialog and it's not a help desk, so nobody is going to email you with instructions...

Re: Audacity adds unwated "swishy" backgroun noise
We have a very large collection of methods for cleaning vinyl, however none of them are going to work if you can't get the computer to run. Audacity will not work into a full hard drive, one with errors or highly fragmented. It sounds a great deal like your drive is filling up. Which Windows have yo...

Re: Export overwrite WAV
2GB is the approximate length of a two hour, very high quality, stereo show. That's not counting effects, UNDO and layers of filters and export final sound file. So no, that's not even remotely enough drive space. The fuzzy number we use for editing is 15% to 20% free drive space -- after you load t...

Re: Audacity adds unwated "swishy" backgroun noise
Further, we can't stress enough, you will never turn a noisy recording into an Academy Award. Even the best upgraded Noise Reduction has problems. You are urged strenuously to make clean recordings in the first place. What sort of noise are you trying to kill?

Re: Audacity adds unwated "swishy" backgroun noise
Audacity 1.2 Noise Reduction was never anything to write home about. Upgrade to Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityte...

Re: Audio very low - how to increase?
You need to finish the sentence. "Speaking into my XXX microphone connected by XXX into my XXX laptop running Windows xxx. My Audacity version is 1.2.x.I am having difficulty in getting a reasonable volume level when making mono voice recordings.
Fill in the X's.
