Re: Help: I'm suddenly recording amplified background noise
https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/preferences.html This is a screen grab from that page. Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 13.34.28.png I'm going to read through that again and see if I can find a machine problem to cause that. Do you use Zoom, Skype or other chat or conference application? Those can crea...

It would be good to have a desperation method. Contrast can measure RMS. How about contrast plus the LUFS loudness curve?
Making LUFS without official tools would be harder.

Re: Audible Denial For "Extraneous Noise"
It appears they got most or all of the readings from the ACX specifications. That's a good thing. You won't have books that change volume between different suppliers.
I see they're using a sound editor that has dB values on the timeline. There's an idea.

Re: Recording All Cassettes -- Stopped working -- recording room noise
You get feedback when you have a microphone and a speaker running in the same room and they're turned up too loud. eeeEEEEeeeeeee. This is like the band at the club you like to go to and they get a new sound guy. "Can you hear me OK? eeeeeeeeeeee?" if I had the proper cables. And adapter. ...

Re: Removal of consistent noise throughout a 1 hour recording
which one do we hear? There is no match up exactly. Voices are an insane collection of different tones. This is an analysis of a spoken word or two. Each of those blue peaks represents a different tone roughly labeled by the numbers along the bottom. Many thousands of them. Screen Shot 2020-06-25 a...

Re: Recording All Cassettes -- Stopped working -- recording room noise
If anything happens to the player or the connection, Audacity will forget the connection. Start Audacity last, after you get everything else set up and working. Open the Windows Control Panels and see if you can find the player. The display should have a little bouncing light sound meter. Win7SoundP...

Re: Removal of consistent noise throughout a 1 hour recording
consistent noise That's not what we mean by consistent noise. Consistent Noise is air condition rumble or computer fan whine. Your noise is more like trying to suppress jets going over or trucks going by. A way different problem (as you're finding out). Do you remember spy/mysteries where they woul...

I believe most of that beef is loafing. It used to be the case that Audacity is only running on one of the cores.an 8-core beefy machine

Re: Help: I'm suddenly recording amplified background noise
have been recording consistently Recording what? What's the show? How are you listening? Headphones? You have a collection of symptoms that don't make sense. For one thing, reinstalling Audacity doesn't reset Audacity. So what it looks like you're doing and what you're actually doing are different....
