I'm after Audacity to support Broadcast WAV which directly supports, among other things, iXML for comments. The danger of extending Microsoft WAV is producing a file nobody can read -- or at least your intended target.

I'm slowly remembering this. I was using a Radio Shack 3013 and I got really close to the microphone. That helped with the dense, presence sound even before I squashed it. Leveler is good with this because it's a brute-force limiter (not compressor) similar to processing in 2-way radios. You might need to apply it multiple times to get the proper squashing.
