Re: Rescuing audio from High Gain

Only the Pop is the error. Microphone systems like this have a very gentle auto gain system and for the most part it's invisible. However, when the microphone misbehaves or possibly rubs up against something that creates noise, the Auto Gain system goes into overdrive and reduces the gain of the cha...

Re: WAV and metadata

I'm after Audacity to support Broadcast WAV which directly supports, among other things, iXML for comments. The danger of extending Microsoft WAV is producing a file nobody can read -- or at least your intended target.

Re: Digital Voice recorders... pros/cons of your

Zoom. There has to be at least four that I know of without thinking too hard about it. Very highly thought of. The built-in microphone(s) work very well and I've seen interviews done with just one of those and a quiet room. The Zoom is the low end of the Pro line. Lower than that you're into the mem...

Re: Audacity Doesn't Detect The Music On My Computer - NOOB

My problem is that when I play an audio file on my computer, and I click on Record, it doesn't record anything (like as if there was no music going on) There is a big wiki posting on how to record music playing on your computer. The problem is very common. The stereo cable between the Headphone out...

Re: can audacity help us?

I kept trying to think of a combination of pathways which would work without the second computer, and I can't do it. You need two different transmit pathways: Your voice by itself to the other people and the mixed show with everybody's voice to the upload. There is a simple way to do it if you send ...

Re: can audacity help us?

Audacity is a post production program. The only thing it does in real time is record, play and times for recording when you're not home. That's it. All the other tools, filters and effects are for later, after you finish recording the show. It's very common to have audio production problems when you...

Re: Radio Effect for the Beta

I'm slowly remembering this. I was using a Radio Shack 3013 and I got really close to the microphone. That helped with the dense, presence sound even before I squashed it. The test I did with the USB headset would be good, too. That naturally has a high, dense sound. http://forum.audacityteam.org/vi...

Re: Radio Effect for the Beta

Leveler is good with this because it's a brute-force limiter (not compressor) similar to processing in 2-way radios. You might need to apply it multiple times to get the proper squashing. Also try the telephone filter on top of that. High Pass at 300 and low pass at 3000 if you're not up to rolling ...
