Re: Splittting up instruments in a song
Depends on how they were miked. If each drum had its own microphone and the mixer (human) placed each drum in a different "location" (left to right), then one of the cost-based software packages might be able to help a little. Someone many threads ago suggested that you could use Noise Red...

Re: Meter toolbar missing
View > Toolbar > Reset Toolbars? If that's not it, you might take this as a divine message that you need to upgrade to Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Auda...

Re: Recording from a Digital Piano
I'm working from an abbreviated email from someone in a hurry, so I can't exactly describe the panels. "Use audio port for: Sound Input or Sound Output," You want Input. That should configure the one hole to accept external sound signals and Not use the internal microphone. I need to find ...

Re: Audio cleaning please!
The recording as you presented it appeared to already have a lot of work done to it. That kills anybody who wants to follow with better tools. Do you still have the original recording? Koz

How were you recording the voices? I mean exactly down to part numbers if you have them.

Re: troubleshoot saving
Fill out the show a little. You used Append Record so your show got longer and now you want to save the new, longer show? Are you trying to add a completely new piece and timeline to the older show? Describe exactly what you're doing. It's difficult to give us too much information and background. Yo...

Re: Splittting up instruments in a song
In a word, no. Your ear can tell that the music is an oboe, but to the software, it's just a bunch of blue waves. Vocal Removal, when it works at all, works by "knowing" what's in the exact left-right center of the stereo show. If the vocal isn't in the middle, or has any of about a hundre...

Re: Logitech headset not recognized by Audacity
My OS says it is up todate. It's up to date for Tiger, two operating systems ago. Tiger > Leopard > Snow Leopard and shortly, Lion. The light going back off again is not good news. It means the Mac may have given up trying to mount it. If you go into Mac preferences, you should be able to find it t...

Re: Voice removal - opposite effect
That's called Vocal Isolation and it requires some very serious tricks and software, if it works at all.
Vocal Removal takes out anything exactly common to left and right -- usually the lead singer, but sometimes the bass and drums go, too. And you're left with a mono, not stereo show.

Re: Recording from a Digital Piano
The people in Technical Services assure me that the Stereo Line-In can be accessed from... Desktop > Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound. You should be presented with two choices, Line-In or Line-Out (headphone). And yes, this means you can't use the machine for overdubbing or sound produc...
