Re: Quick newbie question, won't take more than a sec
You need to build your system in our heads like a story. We can't see what you're doing. "I walk up to my USB Logitech Desktop Microphone connected to my Dell Dimension laptop running Windows Vista." Detail is good. There must be a million different ways to get your voice into the computer...

Re: finalizing WAV file for use on car or home cd player
See if you can send Piano2 through the burn process that fails with your files. That is a "perfect" sound file we use for testing. It's a video sound file, 48000 rather than 44100, but I've never met a CD Authoring Program that will reject it. Also, cut down one of your failed music files ...

Re: Append record anywhere a second track
Yes, I was thinking about a way to do it with two computers as well. You might be able to get away with two instances of Audacity on the same computer, but I doubt it. It would be extraordinarily difficult to run both timelines independently. Connect the output of the mixer to the input of the secon...

Re: Append record anywhere a second track
Just to be clear, we're pleased you went to the trouble of including rich detail. We hate the postings like: "My Audacity doesn't work. Why?"

Re: Append record anywhere a second track
So basically I would like to be able to "append record" anywhere on a second track. That's called "Punch-In" and everybody who's accustomed to using a large, floor-standing audio tape machine wants the same thing. It's a feature request that generates vigorous discussion. Typica...

Re: Playback volume mysteriously disappears
Audacity gets blamed a lot for Windows System problems. WinVista or Win7? Do you like recording YouTube video sound from the internet? Make sure you don't have Stereo-Mix, Mix-Out, or any of the other odd recording settings in Windows Control Panels. Recursive sound pathways are responsible for any ...

Re: finalizing WAV file for use on car or home cd player
So the recorded audio can be played on my computer but nowhere else. Even if you email a song to your mom, she can't play it? Are you sure you're producing WAV files? Do you have Windows set to show you file extensions? Hidden File Extensions -- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View >...

Re: finalizing WAV file for use on car or home cd player
Audacity comes out of the box at 44100, 32-bit floating specification. Music CD standard is 16-bit. You can open up a song and re-export it using WAV (Microsoft) signed 16-bit PCM. Look to the lower left of the Audacity screen so find out the sample rate. Either 44100, 48000 should work. If yours st...

Re: Unable to select any effect
Step 1. Audacity 1.3 has Vocal Removal effect built it. It does all that inverting and summation for you in one step. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from h...

Re: Combining Effects
The tool should launch as an "All Pass" filter. You wouldn't need Amplify any more, and Normalize would be redesigned with Link Channels/Independent Channels. Do it with a graphic UI and get rid of the graphic equalizer. Even if you chose to use the text entry boxes, the graphic would show...
