I didn't think Windows had "playthrough" options. Aren't they all handled in the Windows Control Panels?

Re: playback
Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Playback. Sometimes you need to restart Audacity for new system settings to stick.

Re: Freeverb Room Setting Help!
Audacity 1.3 comes with GVerb. You might start there. If you're on Audacity 1.2, you should probably not be. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... ht...

Re: Everything suddenly greying out
You should immediately Save the existing show as an Audacity Project and then Export it as a WAV file for safety backup. Audacity will not save a sound file. You have to Export one. The menu items will be gray if you Paused Audacity instead of Stop. Audacity 1.2 isn't all that stable and if you left...

Did you run out of room? Audacity will not run into a full or highly fragmented hard drive. Sound (and video) takes up a lot of room and can run into speed problems. It doesn't matter how long it takes to calculate a huge spreadsheet or do a Gaussian Blur in Photoshop, but If Audacity can't find eno...

Here it is...

It's actually wrong for Macs. Your settings are in Go > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.
Keeping the instructions correct is very much like housekeeping. Never done.

The tools can go gray if you Pause instead of Stop your playback. Audacity will not do very much in real time -- during playback.

Re: One mic on each channel of stereo input?
Would it blow my laptop's mic input because the mixer produces "line in" voltage, while the laptop is expecting "mic in" voltage? Yes, exactly. If it seems you're swimming uphill on a dark night, it's because you are. Modern Windows Laptops are designed to Skype into the home of...

Re: Remove background noise
If you don't plug anything into your Mac, it should default to Built-In Microphone and Internal Speakers in the case of a MacBook Pro. You can check that in Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input and Output. These defaults will be different on different Macs. Let's see if we get this ...

Re: One mic on each channel of stereo input?
A grown-up microphone like this one (that's a Shure SM-58)... http://www.kozco.com/tech/pvcShockMount/final.jpg ...does not need any services from the computer. No Battery, no nothing. It's stand-alone and it's possible to adapt one of those to go directly into the side of a Windows Laptop. It's pro...
