Re: Vocals isolation
To see the tools at their best, download and process this short, perfect, uncompressed sound clip. http://www.kozco.com/tech/LRMonoPhaset4.wav The Vocal Removal tools should eliminate the third segment completely -- or almost completely. Note that the fourth segment, the one intentionally phase dist...

Re: Vocals isolation
The tools all work by identity and direction. Vocal Removal and the much more difficult split, flip and add only work for singers and instruments in the exact left-right middle of the song. Some of the money-based tools can do that trick with voices and instruments not in the middle. Nobody can do a...

Re: Vocals isolation
The logical trick of isolating frequencies and frequency families doesn't work because most voices and musical instruments share many if not all frequencies. This is a frequency run I did on one single piano note. G two or three octaves down. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/piano_G1.jpg It's not a si...

Re: Remove background noise
Baby steps. If you got bouncing red or green sound meters and a wavy blue line, you got a recording whether or not you can hear it. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg The two are separate processes. This is one of the hardest things to learn when you start to do this for a living....

Re: Blue Yeti Mic - Hissing help?
Given the spectrum picture above, did you try recording on top of your old tube-type TV set, microwave oven, or other electrically noisy appliance? This is sometimes a little magic but appliances that generate radiation (and they're surprisingly common) can get into a recording with buzz and hum. So...

Re: Blue Yeti Mic - Hissing help?
The Blue instructions have the microphone following the volume controls in Windows Control Panels. If the USB Microphone setting got adjusted down, that will give you very noisy performances. You can get surprising automatic adjustments if you use Skype or other voice or conferencing software. Newer...

Re: Extracting audio from video - opens in mono only
And we've been known to scramble the issue, too. To preserve space on a DVD, we sometimes create a Dolby AC3 sound track with only the first two tracks working -- stereo instead of 5.1 surround. This is format valid and supported as is sending a single sound track. AC3 is a compressed format and tak...

Re: SLIDESHOW SOFTWARE TO SYNCH. WITH AUDACITY IN A MAC
You can do it in iMovie, but "Keynote" is the Mac software for presentations. http://www.apple.com/iwork/keynote/ It's part of the iLife or iWork package. It moves around a bit. I supervised a technical presentation a while back as a Keynote slide show. The most work I had to do was convin...

Re: Remove background noise
Plug your USB Music Device in, let it "settle" and get used to the neighborhood. Go back into Apple > System Preferences, etc. etc. and you should see the USB Music Device listed there in addition to the other options. It may not have a proper name. I think my microphone announces itself a...

Re: Remove background noise
Sorry it's going to take me a bit to get to this. Things picked up at work. The dangers of an all volunteer support force.
