Re: closed window, no prompt to save new project--where is d
In addition, you should Export a WAV file of any critical work. Audacity is not multi-user, multi-tasking, so trying to run multiple instances of it doing different sound jobs is asking for trouble. If speed is a problem, you can Save a Project which will happen very rapidly, but remember you do not...

Re: closed window, no prompt to save new project--where is d
You didn't say which version of Mac you have, but 1.2 Audacity versions can be profoundly unstable on newer Macs. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here....

Re: multi output control
Last I knew, Audacity only outputs two channels (Stereo). You can get more channels out of Audacity as files.
Also, Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. It's a post production (after the fact) processor.

Re: How to amplify after noise removal w/out adding noise
24dB will not be theatrical. The noise will remain inside each word as its spoken, but the spaces between the words will be clear. This sounds really weird and is the edge beyond which you say you have no show and start over. Yes, the Capture Profile step is critical. Noise Removal will try to subtr...

Re: Cannot record
I'm not a Windows Elf, but can you look in Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Devices (I think) and make sure something rational is selected. Both Windows and Audacity have to point to the same thing for proper recording. Particularly if you have an analog headset, this is what Windows laptops are desi...

Re: Compare audio quality and intensity of 2 media players?
Windows Media immediately converts everything to proprietary h.264 and has internal volume controls, so I'm not shocked they're different. Dig down in the Windows Media preferences or setups (I'm not on a Windows machine). There is another problem in Windows that newer machines come out of the box i...

Re: Compare audio quality and intensity of 2 media players?
Do they sound different to you? I would be surprised if they did, given you have the effects turned off. "Intensity" and Volume Management are special effects. Most players play at the best quality they can given the work. If they fail, it's usually because of stuttering or off-speed playb...

Re: error message when hitting record button
The usual Get Out Of Jail card is to reset Audacity to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo in Audacity Preferences. Restart Audacity. Then go into Windows Control Panels and make sure they're set to deliver the right sound device to Audacity. Audacity is a complete slave to what Windows is doing. Are you trying t...

Re: *why is there still noise even when...
You could do everything in 16-bit and avoid the dither and sampling problems altogether. It's only if you get into very serious effects, noise reduction and production tools that 32-floating buys you anything. If all you're doing is capturing vinyl and making a Music CD (for one example) 32-float ma...
