The cache is one thing, but Audacity (and other production programs) use 'real' storage -- and a lot of it. You should go down that pathway and see what the actual storage capacity and availability is.

Re: re equalizing or amplifying
3. I have imported an MP3 file to audacity, hilighted the section I want to amplify or equalize but none of the effect options are active, what am I doing wrong? I vote we take that one first. The tools only work if Audacity is in Stop. If you Pause the playback, the tools will be gray. If you have...

Re: My voice WAY LOWER when recording with stereo mix.
All of those packages are money-based. "Writing a check" is the archaic form of "pay for something." Pamela can put the far side of the Skype call on one audio track and the near side (you) on the other. This gives you a stereo track with both sides of the conversation clear and ...

Re: External USB soundcard versus a USB microphone
I have no plans to move more than 3 feet from the PC Which is dead quiet with no ventilation fans? People get used to noisy, echo-filled rooms and don't hear them until they try to make live recordings. "I can hear the computer power supply fans! Why do I sound like I'm speaking in a bathroom?...

Re: My voice WAY LOWER when recording with stereo mix.
Yes. Use two computers. Skype takes over the sound channels inside a single computer while it's running and you pretty much can't stop it. It's vicious that way -- and it's the secret of Skype's success. You can also write software checks. I believe Total Recorder can record both sides as can Pamela...

Make sure you're not running out of hard drive space. You need at least 20% free space on a moderate size drive for audio (or video) production.

Re: Attaching Sound to Videos (Windows Movie Maker)
Converting an existing show is a little convoluted. Change the sample rate with the little window at the lower left of the editing window. Then select Other Uncompressed File Types at export and select Windows WAV at 16-bit. If the show isn't in stereo, then you need to create two-track mono, but ho...

Re: Attaching Sound to Videos (Windows Movie Maker)
Video sound specification (non-surround) is 48000, 16-bit, stereo. You can do all your production in that standard by changing the Audacity Preferences. After you get done with production, Export a WAV file. That file should slide right into any video editor. Please note that Windows tends to go its...

Re: measure (heart) beats per minute
If you do get the Music Finder to work and create a healthy square wave on the timeline, you can then use the spectrum analysis tool to find out the average frequency of the wave. The time or period is 1/frequency.

Re: measure (heart) beats per minute
It's worse than you think. Real-world events rarely lend themselves to neat, orderly digitizing. There is a tool in Audacity 1.3 called "Silent Finder." What could be simpler, right? Sense when the blue waves go below a certain value and ring a metaphorical bell. Most people mess around wi...
