Re: voice mails

Yes. Do you have an Edit > Preferences > Recording > Playthrough setting? Some versions of Audacity don't. That should let you run the playback and record systems at once and let you hear what you're doing. If you don't have that setting, you might want to try Audacity 1.3 instead of 1.2. Audacity 1...

Re: How to "Compact" wav file to fit on a cd

Just because I haven't been evil in a long time, if quality isn't an issue, you can compress the speed of the file so it sounds like Donald Duck, put two hours on the Music CD (still sounding like Donald Duck), and uncompress it later. Of course, you'll need Audacity on both ends of the shipment and...

Re: How to "Compact" wav file to fit on a cd

I was wondering if anyone could suggest how to compact a large wav file to fit on a standard audio cd - without removing any material As above, you don't. You can make the show sound really crappy by compressing and playing games with it, but all you will get on the final CD is 78 minutes of crappy...

Re: ART Dual Pro problem

Sometimes we tell people to try the Windows Sound Recorder instead of Audacity to locate the problem. If you get any voice recording at all, then it's probably an Audacity problem.

Re: ART Dual Pro problem

You get the red sound meters moving and they jump when you talk? Or they just jump all the time whether you talk or not?

You can make the sound meters much bigger like the picture by clicking on one edge and dragging them bigger.

Re: 2 Mics via 2 open Audacity Applications

For 2 microphones, a stereo USB microphone pre-amp could be used wit 2 conventional microphones.
With caution. Someone posted a while back with a preamplifier that forced the microphone to appear on both stereo channels. You need a Left-Right fader control to make that work.

Re: Not able to record

Audacity can only do what the Windows machine tells it to. You need to set your Windows Control Panels to record from your microphone first. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel Then set Audacity Preferences to record from th...

Re: Audacity and Skype

If you don't need an actual conversation, you might be able to host streaming instead of Voice Over IP. That's how the radio stations do it. Skype's claim to fame is its ability to provide a conversation - both directions -- no matter what the connection is. This gives you the ability to do war corr...

Re: 2 Mics via 2 open Audacity Applications

The one to two (or more) microphone transition is the killer. Computers in legacy configuration have always been able to do do "one thing" in a single channel or single Stereo channel. More modern computers retain that legacy but add the single conference service which is how most Windows ...

Re: voice mails

Or, even better, use the built-in recorder on your phone and then do a data transfer to any other audio program -- Audacity included.
