By the way, if you decide to "upgrade" to a laptop, you may be forced into the USB decision. Most Windows laptops do not have stereo input connections.

Re: 2 Mics via 2 open Audacity Applications
There's nothing wrong with low-end sound equipment as long as you pay attention to what you're doing. The one shortcoming to your proposed system is going from analog volts to digits. I have no doubt the mixer will do a terrific job of delivering a good, crisp, clean level to your ratty, six year ol...

Re: Making Vocal Only audio
And if you really play your cards right, you can get tunnel/rain barrel effects as only pieces of it cancel. It's fun, but not effective if you're looking for a clean separation. By the way, it rarely works the other way, either. There are fully formed tools to create karaoke tracks from vocal prese...

Re: 2 Mics via 2 open Audacity Applications
Yes, that should work. After recording, click on the Track Drop-down menu http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Track_Drop-Down_Menu and select "Split Stereo to Mono". Maybe not. If you're on a Windows laptop machine, there is a really good chance you don't have a stereo music input. Most Wi...

Windows comes out of the box trying to help you perform an audio conference. This is the last thing you want if you're trying to do a straight music recording.

Re: Original track re-records onto new track
You also like to record internet audio. You are not recording directly from your sound device. You're recording "Stereo Mix" or one of those other services that lets you record whatever is playing on the computer. You should follow these instructions backwards.... http://wiki.audacityteam....

Re: Making Vocal Only audio
That's called Vocal Isolation and I don't think anybody's been able to get that to work yet. The main problem is studios keep insisting on remixing music so each version sounds good, making the two instrumentals non-identical. In addition, many people try to do this trick with MP3 downloads and thos...

Re: Live recording in Limbo
Audio (and video) production needs massive amounts of drive space to work, at minimum three or four times the size of the show, plus the actual operating system -- OS-X. That's ignoring any other applications and services you have working, like your internet connection. Once your system runs out of ...

Re: voice mails
Once you get it all working, the sound pathways may become unstable forcing you to use headphones rather than loudspeakers. You should plan for that.
