Re: Removing noise causes more problems to audio
We're into law enforcement quality, not entertainment interview. Yes this was a Wireless Mic. Many if not all Hollywood sound people would rather open a vein with a razor blade than use a radio microphone. Crowds are great radio suppressors. The microphone works perfectly in the rehearsal and turns ...

Re: Trouble recording from mixer
Macs tend to have really good stereo, line-level inputs, but no microphone connection. Windows Laptops tend to be videoconferencing devices, not High Quality Recorders. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg The Mic-In is VERY sensitive and mono. If you do the slightest thing wrong, it...

Re: Removing noise causes more problems to audio
Do you see where I'm going with this (@Steve)? If I can grab those spikes and suck them out, I might go a long way to suppressing the worst of the trash. Picture 2.png I can see the detector trying and the shape of the wave changes, but it never gets smaller. I suspect the tool isn't vicious enough ...

Re: Removing noise causes more problems to audio
But, yes. There's not much hope. I did the analysis and the characteristics of a human voice, pitch, timbre, overtones are almost exactly the characteristics of the buzz and crackle.
Not much to go on.
Still trying.

Re: Removing noise causes more problems to audio
Oooo. Nasty Surprise. The Noise Gate, which might be able to poke holes in the worst of the spikes will not go to zero attack/delay.

Re: Removing noise causes more problems to audio
Well, that's not good news. when I single out the massive line noise That's never a good operator's note. I tried to do some of the more sophisticated suppression tools on your "clean" clip and I'm not doing well. Usually, the threshold of repairs is that you can hear and clearly understan...

Re: Removing noise causes more problems to audio
Without even listening to the clips yet, you should stop using Audacity 1.2 immediately. Most of the internal tools, particularly Noise Reduction are beginner, rudimentary, or terrible. ==================== Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1....

Re: How can I make sure flac files are 24 bit?
Traditionally, that's done with QuickTime Player. Open the file in QT and Command-I to get the INFO panel. However, QT7 doesn't understand FLAC. So I opened up the file in VLC Player and got that to tell me the INFO. Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 10.14.38 PM.png http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-maco...

Re: Couple equip. questions...
Do you want to record a "live" take of the entire band playing at the same time... That's generally how I do it. I'm set up to do a terrific job of recording once, pack up the car and go home. do you want each instrument/vocal on its own track? That's how the grownups do it. It can even b...
