Re: Audacity won't record

Audacity versions earlier than 1.3.12 are not supported on modern Macs. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You c...

Re: importing from iTunes

If your music has FairPlay Copy Protection on it, the music will only open in iTunes. The traditional way to get around that -- past capturing with Windows Stereo Mix -- was to burn the music to a Music CD and then rip the CD.

Re: How do I Improve Muffled Sound?

It depends on why it's muffled, but in general you can apply Effect > Equalization > Graphic tool and boost the settings to the right.

You may find that the overall channel noise or hiss goes up a lot and gets sharp and unpleasant when you do this.

Re: Cassette to digital problems using Ion Tape Express

A very healthy number of people have been able to get this to work... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UCA202.jpg That's a Behringer UCA-202 external USB sound card. It's very simple and about $30 USD. We even got the Linux machines at work to recognize it. We have two there and I have one here at...

Re: After cutting/pasting a CLICK/POP is generated on track

The click can probably be removed using the "Repair" effect That's a new one on me. Better still would be to avoid making the click in the first place. You can never get back to good with the correction tools. The best you can do is patch up the mistakes so most people don't notice them m...

Re: After cutting/pasting a CLICK/POP is generated on track

The general instruction for this is to always cut at the zero crossing points. If you blow up (magnify) the blue waves enough, you find that they are just up and down and up and down rhythms. Sound works out best if you cut on one of the places where a wave crosses zero -- in the middle top to botto...

Re: Windows 7: During Recording Waves Run Off the Page

Let me answer the question you didn't ask. No, you can't plug your music into the Mic-In of your Windows Laptop. It will drive the videoconferencing programs and software crazy. Eventually, they will go into muting mode where they try to cancel it out. First step if you are trying to record, for exa...

Re: Distortion problem on piano recording

It's regenerative, too. Many cheaper systems use the healthy battery "smoothing" effect to even out the trash and whine that the power adapter makes. I bet when you get your new battery, you can use the wall wart just fine.

Re: Audacity 1.3 Beta

Audacity and many other similar production programs use all the memory. If you have a bad memory stick in high memory, you may never know unless you try to Gaussian Blur a Photoshop picture, Render a fade in Premiere, or launch Audacity. Microsoft makes a dandy memory checker -- free. http://oca.mic...

Re: Newbie help with waveform

http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg If you're a live performer that likes to be expressive, that might still be too loud. Clipping is where your sound channel runs out. In analog, it means you tried to push three pounds of sound into a two pound bag -- the signal at the microphone is...
