Re: Making bit-exact WAV file copies of DATs
With the dithering off, you should be able to process one file and the input and output should match. That's a good as we can do. DAT has quite a reputation in the sound world. Have you looked inside your machine? It's a spinning head videotape machine in there with all the errors that suggests. Wha...

Re: Barbershop Tag Recording with Audacity
Newer Windows machines come with audio conferencing software and settings turned on. It thinks your voice is air conditioning or room noise and tries to cancel it out. Exactly what you would want in an internet voice conversation

Re: Recording problem from guitar amp to laptop
Good start. The output of the guitar amplifier is massively too big for the Mic-In of your Laptop. You might consider one of these.. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UCA202.jpg That's a Behringer UCA-202 and it will adapt the powerful sound signal from your guitar to the PC. I think that's the che...

Re: Making bit-exact WAV file copies of DATs
I'm believing that if you plug anything into the optical port, it will show up in Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Audio > Input and you can select it. The audio will be 48000, 16-bit, Stereo in the case of "normal" DAT. Set Audacity preferences to that and restart Audacity. Turn of...

Re: exporting as mp3 - no audio
I am using Audacity 1.2.6 and have Windows 7. Yes. stop using Audacity 1.2.6. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download...

Re: Noise removal issues...
Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. It just manages the bits that are presented. Audacity > Preferences > Recording > Software Playthrough > OK. Restart Audacity. You can grab the edge of the sound meters and pull them much bigger. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_record.jpg Click onc...

Re: Noise Removal usage in a Chain
Chains can't stop and wait for user input. The chained tools have to be set and forget. Noise reduction doesn't work too well that way because the program has to be aware of show content and it can't actually do that. So the best we can do is assume all the shows in the chain have the same noise -- ...

Re: CD Burning
Audacity will not Save a sound file. You have to Export one and it doesn't matter AIFF or WAV for iTunes.

Re: Noise removal issues...
You're talking about that ambulance-sounding warbling in the background, right? Neither noise reduction is going to help that. You're going to need to find out where that's coming from. How are you getting your voices and the game sound into the recording? Specifics are good. "Logitech USB micr...
