Re: Raising volume of a certain instrument while lowing othe
It's certainly possible if you start with a multi-track project -- each instrument on its own track. Then you can change the balance and placement of each instrument as you want. Then export a new mixed show with the changes in it. You can't separate instruments once you make a mix. There is one too...

Re: LOW PASS FILTER NOT WORKING?
Oh, yes. Stop using Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ You can install both audacity 1.2 and Audac...

Re: Why does clipping occur?
Racing posts. So you're doing this... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/DesktopLine-In.jpg That should have worked. Do you have a 20Db Boost control in your system tools? You should be able to turn down the Line-In slider in Windows Control Panels to get out of this problem. Line-In doesn't have th...

Re: Why does clipping occur?
Windows laptops generally have Headphone Out and Mic in, suitable for conferencing, Skype, etc. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCLaptopSound.jpg http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg Mic-In is Mono, very sensitive and distorts very easily. We generally recommend the UCA202 as ...

Re: Windows7 with Audacity 1.2.6
It's not supposed to crash ever. Audacity 1.2 is a problem on newer computers. You should upgrade, but Export a WAV of the work before you do. WAV doesn't support music files over 2GB or 4GB, so if you have a really large show, the Project may be it. Projects should open in higher versions. Audacity...

Re: Limit the frequency range in Spectral Analysis
That's the frequency of show that it will analyze, not the output of the analysis. It could be argued that the display doesn't go far enough up. If you have severe clipping at 8KHz, the damage will go up three harmonics -- that's 32 KHz.
Why would you want the display to stop sooner?

Re: Removing One set of vocals or Frequency
There is no "background noise." There is only total show sound with the voices tightly woven into the music bed with each given the same importance. There are some tools that can remove voices from a stereo show leaving most of the music behind and you can try that. Effect > Vocal Removal....

Re: New and Confused to getting this working
That rang bells, didn't it? Is there a place to plug headphones into your device? Will it play tapes without actually capturing in Audacity?
I'm sure you have to have the USB cable plugged in to get it to work.
It's suspicious that you can hear connect and disconnect noises but no music.

We progress.
I have contacts at Sweetwater Sound and they're always calling me and asking if there's anything they can do.
Yes. There is.
