Re: Function Similar to noise gate
Most fish will survive perfectly well with the pump off for multiple hours. They might even enjoy the rest from the constant pounding. I'd probably do that first, unless there are a lot of fish in a really small tank. As you can see by Steve's excellent listings, trying to fix this in post is far mo...

Re: Problems recording a second track (multi-tracking)
The 10,000 foot view of this is the sound card plays back tracks with different electronics than it records. If there are slight timing differences between them it's usually so small that nobody notices -- until you start trying to overdub-- where differences are immediately noticeable. For example,...

Re: marking several points in a sound file
You can add labels to your show and write inside each label as a hint of the content. Tracks > Add Label. Shortcut keys differ, but yours probably is Control-B. I believe labels stick with you when you Save a Project and open it again multiple times. Lables are sticky or magnetic and you can use the...

You're doing a podcast where you Skype each other, but record your voice locally. Then one emails the local track to the other and marries it to that local track for a very high quality version of the podcast. Did I get it? Since Skype Does Not Play Well With Others, how are you capturing your local...

Sibilance and it's cause by sound damage somewhere in the process. "Sister Suzy" sound like drilling teeth? What happens if you just plain play the CD on a CD player or even your computer into headphones? Say with Windows Media Player. Leave Audacity off. Also, how are you getting the perf...

Re: Vocal removing issue
Having the vocal off-centre left to right isn't the only problem you may have. That's a significant one, of course, but if the voice has had any stereo effects added to it (room echo, artificial separation) then the effects will stay in the show even if the voice is gone. This gives the "ghost ...

Re: Finding recording page
There are a number of differences between the two machines. Let's fill out the job. "I'm trying to record my voice using the built-in microphone on my 17" MacBook Pro OS-X 10.6.8 and Audacity 1.3.13."

Re: Audacity Files
I'm not solving the Unitary Project problem. I'm addressing the much more basic problem of people expecting Audacity to Save a sound file.
That's not to say that a Unitary Project isn't a terrific idea.

Re: Killing hard clipping
Are you likely to be listening to square waves? The bottom sample, the one closest to sine waves is most likely to have been the original show. There is a Photoshop tool that when you change one brightness point, the rest of the scene changes to what it would likely have been if the whole scene had ...

Re: Audacity Freezes with Multiple Clicks
You couldn't shut down by pressing and holding the power button? It generally takes about five or six seconds. Are you filling up your hard drive? This will cause Sudden Computer Insanity. As near as I can tell, the problem begins when I type a command three times in a row. We live on high quality i...
