Re: Best Practices for Narration Recording?

When you're used to commercial recordings carefully processed, it can be an enormous shock the first time you make a live recording and find out how difficult it is to capture performances without damage. There is another posting of someone performing the drum parts of a song by very close miking hi...

Re: Timer

I can't put what you wrote on Bugzilla; Nobody expects you to. I'm perfectly clear I need to document and repeat this problem. That was the narrative of the right-brain operator trying Very Hard to make a simple timer recording before leaving the house. The left-brain engineer is fascinated that yo...

Re: Wave Out, What U Hear, Sum or Loopback missing

Not all modern computers support "Mix-Out." Sometimes you can burrow down into the sound panels and find it there, sometimes you burrow down and there's nothing there. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer If you burrow down and there's nothing there, yo...

Re: webloc recording

Can you play the file? If you can't play it, that's the end of the story.

SoundFlower isn't obvious in how it works. All it does it let you record what you're playing. If you can't play it.....

Steve wrote a terrific piece on how to use it, but I can't find it. Looking.

Re: File has wav extension but Audacity says otherwise

QuickTime X ignores the file extension and correctly identifies the file as MPEG Layer 3, 1 channels, 8000 Hz.
And plays it.

Audacity 1.3.13 went for the FFMpeg libraries, couldn't find them, and opened and played the file anyway.

Re: How do I record a guitar in mono on FastTrack

If you get something other than zero on the "dead" channel, that can be caused by the sound cable not being plugged all the way in.

Re: How do I record a guitar in mono on FastTrack

I haven't looked up the specifications of the Fast Track, but it's almost a certainty that the Line-In is stereo. You can't change it. Only the guitar people have a default mono device, so you're in the minority, there. You can set Audacity to record in mono, but you might get nothing as the default...

Re: Audacity and Skype

Have you heard of people using Audacity to record Skype calls? Not successfully, no. Skype takes over the computer sound channels and Audacity gets left trampled and squashed in the dust. Pamela Business or Pamela Professional (not the other two) and I think Total Recorder will do it, too. https://...

Re: Timer

smacks of the programmer(s) trying to be too clever by far and not sticking to the KISS principle. In the US, we are forbidden to type the two letter designation for a state. Apparently "CA" is too much for us creative, left-brain types to manage, so a pull-down menu system has been creat...
