Re: stereo to mono
Yes, Audacity 1.3 has a packaged tool that does this in one pass. There is one very rare condition that could cause problems if you do this. If the performance was recorded "out of phase," then making mono could cancel some of the work, instruments, voices, or combinations. It could cause ...

Re: Lost all of my files...? Bug or operator error?
It makes me think you did something like that because we have elves that edit progressively more and more complex shows by doing exactly what you did, and they come out with a complete show at the end -- no missing bits. Just to cover the bases.... You are using Audacity 1.3, right? Audacity 1.2 is ...

Re: Lost all of my files...? Bug or operator error?
The other thing you can mess up is save a Project and then move it. If the pathway to the music files changes, there goes the music. You can change an Audacity Preference setting so this doesn't happen any more. I think Audacity 1.3.13 comes this way now. Preferences > Import/Export > [X] Make a cop...

Re: Lost all of my files...? Bug or operator error?
Calm down. The default Audacity Project does not make a personal copy of the show music. It uses the music files presented to it, but leaves them there. If you create a condition where Audacity can not find your music files, the music in the show drops dead. So plug the Thumb drive with all the musi...

Re: Recording from Speaker Output
I seem to have scrambled my own postings. A new first.
Freecorder is the Windows sound capture program, although it makes you save the work in MP3.

Re: Recording from Speaker Output
Maybe not so many. I'm a Mac elf and you pretty much ran out the clock on what I can do. The other elves will be along. Many thanks,
Recording this way has always been a pain in the butt from chapter one on a Mac.

Re: Recording from Speaker Output
AllTunes and its parent AllOfMP3 went out of business or the pieces left are struggling (in Russia) to stay afloat. So that's why the business operation can't be contacted. You didn't say which set of instructions you were following, but was is this set? http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=...

Re: Text-Audio Synchronization Question
Audacity is a simple post-producton editing program that has limited interaction with the outside world. Most of the postings on the forum involve trying to make audacity record and play sound -- and have trouble doing that.

Re: Burn recording to CD
To burn to disc, I use Realplayer, another free program. Realplayer used to be invasive and sticky. I decided to remove Realplayer from my PC and I vividly remember the hours it took me to do it. Then to my horror, the local NPR Public Radio station decided to adopt Realplayer technology for their ...

Re: Audacity icon remains in Dock
Control-Click on the icon > Show in Finder That should show you where the icon points. When I Control-Click (right-click if you have a two button mouse) on my Audacity icon, it points to the "Audacity" folder. Search for the Audacity folder reveals that it's in /Applications I have Finder ...
