Re: guitar USB interface
I have the ART preamp and yes it is USB and it has headphones output for monitoring. Can you listen to the computer track playback mixed with the live performance? It's turning out that's critically important for easy overdubbing success. You know when we get posters complaining that the computer i...

Re: Creating a backtrack
No. The sole exception might be Effect > Vocal Remover which deletes anything in the exact left-right center of a good quality stereo show. The original stereo show turns mono when you get done. Since the singer is usually in the middle, the singer gets deleted. Many times drums and bass go, too, si...

Re: Learning language. Record voice and compare to recording
Exactly correct. I hadn't thought about that. I thought you were going to try and analyze that French swallowing your "R" sounds by looking at the waveform, for example. I want to watch you try that. I do think after getting the initial swing and rhythm of the language down, possibly not t...

Re: Import to project-- I am missing something obvious?
You can force Windows to show you file extensions. That can go a very long way to telling you what's going on. -- Hidden File Extensions -- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide Extensions for Known File Types (deselect) -- Apply (to this folder) or Apply to All Folders -- O...

Re: guitar USB interface
Who has the ART preamp and is it USB?
Does it have headphone drivers? It kills you if you can't do that headphone mixing thing.

Re: guitar USB interface
You need to be in Audacity 1.3.13 for these tricks to work. Your job is completely beyond what Audacity 1.2 can do.

Re: guitar USB interface
A note. When you set up for overdubbing, each time you press record, Audacity will create a whole new track for you. After a number of passes, you have multiple tracks one over the other and you can do whatever you want to each one. The picture is one I did with a slightly different hardware arrange...

Re: guitar USB interface
The raw electric guitar signal is pretty powerful. This is a clip of a guitarist playing an electric jammed straight into the Line-In of my Mac. No amps, no pedals, no effects. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/clips/millerGuitar2.wav You do need to know that you don't get the sound of the cabinet ...

Re: File opens in mono
When I open it the file is in "mono" and not stereo. When you open it how and in what? Yes, it was recorded in stereo and when the file is played, it plays in stereo mode. Played how and in what? Detail is good. We can't see what you're doing. There is a setting in Audacity called "M...

Re: Split tracks in a stereo recording
You may not need to do that. Effect > Normalize is the Amplify tool except that it affects each side individually.
