Re: problems recording - sound echo-y and tin-ny
Windows machines no longer present the charade that they're "Personal Entertainment Machines." They're business computers and certain adjustments have been made to make them work like that. They come out of the box set up for voice conferencing and usually have echo cancellation and auto g...

Re: Save Project Name Starts Recording
Audacity 1.2 saves preferences in a folder separate from the program. Even if you trash Audacity, the preferences hang around and can contaminate newer installs. If you think you need to, trash this folder: Go > Home > Library > Application Support > audacity Audacity will start over from First Birt...

Re: How do I apply effect to many tracks at one time?
There is no Audacity "au" file format. Those are little fragments of the Audacity Project and not meant to be used outside the show. If you really inspect one of them, you will find that not only are they fragments, they are fragments of only Left or Right. Audacity will not Save a sound f...

Re: Recording via iMic
What am I doing incorrectly? Maybe not very much. Did you select the USB device in the Input dropdown of the Audacity main window? Better, Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. What's selected there? Select your USB device and make sure the little blue ball sound meter bounces when...

Re: Blue Yeti - Win Settings Problem?
Capture software never uses the sound in native format. It always resamples for maximum efficiency and small file sizes. We may be listening to the digitizing errors -- particularly if it's compressing at the same time. The capture software at work captures at 64 bps -- barely enough for stereo. A s...

Re: Compressor: shorter attack/release times?
Traditional processing chains use two devices: The first one is slow and sloppy and is used to set overall volume. The one after that is a peak limiter and is a good deal more aggressive. CBS Audimax and Volumax for one early example. This is a rolicking, free-wheeling radio talk show "Wait Wai...

You can delete a posting if you realize it's in the wrong place. I posted the answer over there.

Re: Editing Audio Clip
Default iTunes music is in M4A, not MP3 because M4A allows copy protection and other tricks. It's not a bad compressor, either. If you assume an iTunes music file without FairPlay protection, you can download and install the FFMpeg software package. http://audacityteam.org/download/ Then you can ope...
