If I then import a backing track mp3 into Audacity, can I play along to the backing track and record it? Darn good question, that. The software that comes with the product seems to take over the production ports and services, so I think trying to get Audacity to punch through all that wouldn't work...

've followed the link provided (by kozikowski) and have follwed the instructions to check that my Drivers are up to date and they are. It's not a driver software issue although that couldn't hurt. Windows comes set for conferencing sound management and those settings do not get along with theatrica...

The short answer is no. That's one of the deadly sins from which there is no recovery. The room is now a performer in your show. An echo is the actor's voice coming back to the microphone late. Windows may be trying to help you out. Windows defaults to conference mode where it tries to echo cancel and auto level set. You can turn that off and the problem should go away.

Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers.
