There's another possibility. If you're on a newer Windows machine, Windows could be causing the distortion. How are you plugged into the computer? Like my illustration?

Re: Tape "blurs"
Is this a cassette player? http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UCA202.jpg Can you pop the door open and get a Q-Tip in there to clean the heads and rollers? Dip in Vodka or rubbing alcohol and roll gently over the heads and rollers. Dry afterwards before you put a tape in. Use a powerful flashlight a...

Re: shorten recording
The 78 minute restriction only applies if you burn a Music CD. If you burn a Data CD, you can put many hours of MP3 music on the disk. Those usually play in computers just fine, but will not play on real CD players and may not play in your car. they won't play in mine. So if you know who your audien...

Re: shorten recording
It's 78 minutes, not 80. You can drag-select the last three or four minutes of the show and press delete. If the show is important, you can do critical editing where you delete the spaces between words and shorten pauses in the conversation. There isn't much you can do with music. Audacity 1.3 has a...

Re: How to reduce the wav file size in audacity 1.3.13
If MP3 file format is acceptable to Power Point, you can install the lame software package to Audacity from here... http://audacityteam.org/download/ ...and Audacity will export compressed MP3 music files. The default compression of 128 is good for most applications and gives a very small file. You ...

Re: Taking snipits from a song to import on powerpoint
You have to drag-select a portion of the song that you wish to use, and then File > Export Selection > WAV. You can magnify the blue waves around the target and find your beginning and end points by listening and then put labels at the two points. Control-B. The labels become sticky or magnetic and ...

Windows may be "helping you" by auto level setting your microphone. This is one of the new Windows conferencing tools.

Re: Cannot export MP3 in Lion
I had some Twilight Zone problems with lame on my machine, too. Try this. Dig down to where the DyLib was supposed to go and trash it if it's there. On mine it's /usr/local/lib/audacity/libmp3lame.dylib You can go down there with the terminal tool or Go > Go To Folder with the gui. Does Lion still h...

Re: Annoying behavior, which must have a simple fix.
OIC what the problem is. When I undock the pushbuttons panel, it stays on top of Audacity, but gets covered up by everything else. It's not global float to the top.
