Re: Adding a threshold to the equalizer

Transistor sound would need to be complex. It's hard clipping at the top and crossover/transient intermodulation distortion in the quiet bits. That's why all the early amplifiers were rated at full output -- and isn't that great? No, it's not, because at quiet volumes, the amplifiers were terrible. ...

Re: How to reduce the wav file size in audacity 1.3.13

You can reduce a WAV file to half by converting from stereo to mono. Past that, WAV files get very messy. Can you send the show as multiple PPT files? You can stack them for playback, right? Most email programs have a per-email limit of 20 MB -- I think that's Yahoo mail -- although I wouldn't push ...

Re: Help! Files play but NO SOUND!

/Volumes is a folder above the folders you can easily get to from the desktop.

Go > Go to folders > /Volumes

Don't leave out the slash marks.

Re: Help! Files play but NO SOUND!

Are you clear what happened? Once you save your Project (aup, _data folder) the location of the music files freezes. If you move them, rename them, organize them, delete them, change them in any way, then Audacity will not be able to find them and a portion of the show will drop dead. Audacity 1.3.1...

Re: slight Distortion on Harmonizing

Overload, smashing and clipping are pretty much permanent performers in your show. That and echoes are all but impossible to remove. You can try Effect > Clip Fix. If you don't have that tool, I may need to go search for it. Clip Fix is one of the tools that gets your hopes up, but rarely works well...

Re: Frequncy handling capabilities

Audacity can handle anything up to 1/2 the sample frequency. 44100, 48000, etc. Your cheap, inexpensive sound card may not make it to 20KHz. Any frequency much above about 17KHz isn't heard by most people and can cause very serious sampling errors and distortion. So most sound cards just don't go th...

Re: Help! Files play but NO SOUND!

You produced a show that included music files and then Saved an Audacity Project. So far so good. You opened the Project later and everything was OK. Then you cleaned up by deleting or moving the music files because they're not needed any more -- except they are. That's the problem. If you put all t...

Re: New User: partial audio problem ?!

There are two ways to record audio playing on the computer (which is what you're doing). You can play the audio out to the outside world (mixer optional) and then bring it back in for recording. You have to be very serious about Windows Sound Management to make this work, but it is one of the accept...

Re: Rock music with Audacity help

Sound Editing is a six-inch thick wiki (if they were thick). Can you give us a suggestion where you're getting stuck? Import each instrument to Audacity and they will arrive one above the other. Play (or spacebar) and they all play at once. If one is early or late, you can use the Time Shift Tool (b...
