Re: Taking out background music

You have a fighting chance of removing the vocal and leaving the karaoke. Going the other way, while not impossible, is very rough to do.

Re: Sound quality deteriorates halfway through recording

By the time you get to Windows 7, they gave up the idea of selecting more than one device at once. Nobody could figure it out. Other machines have "Aggregate Device," but they usually limit themselves to two identical -- or similar -- microphones. You need that service because Audacity wil...

That is a really excellent question you have there and it's perfectly illustrated.

Re: My tracks arent matching up on playback.

Exactly correct. That's called Recording Latency and you can correct it in Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here... http://audacityteam.or...

Re: isolate

For those following along at home, we're talking about the new feature in Effect > Noise Removal. The object of Isolate is to show you what Noise Removal removed from the performance. If you start hearing valuable work in that tool, then you know the noise removal settings were too aggressive. That'...

Re: Normalize before noise removal?

This is a sore point as most often you want Effect > Amplify for music or voice, but Effect > Normalize is the one with the DC management tool. I would remove DC before any other effects. DC or battery voltage in a sound track is pure evil and causes multiple problems. Run Effect > Normalize, but on...

Re: opening project

AUP files aren't music. They're Project Supervisory files. To get Audacity to give you a Music File, you have to Export one.

File > Export > WAV.

Re: extend the pause between words

No. Audacity does not recognize languages, so it doesn't know about spaces between words.

Re: Garbling to the max!

This isn't Audacity. Windows has features to make conferencing and communications better. The features tend to mess up musical or entertainment recording.

Re: Importing WMA files for conversion to MP3

Windows assumes any file it doesn't understand or want to bother with is a Windows Media File. You only know it's not if you have Windows show you File Extensions instead of hiding them. -- Hidden File Extensions -- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide Extensions for Known ...
