You posted in the Audacity 1.2 forum. If you are using 1.2, you should download and use 1.3. The tools and effects are much improved.

Re: Any way to IMPROVE sound when using TEMPO-slow on a trac
there was a product called CD Looper, and earlier versions of it had "settings" that purportedly allowed you to 'smooth over' the gaps in an audio recording I kept waiting for you to write, "I used it and it worked very well." My guess is it didn't work very well. "Smoothin...

Re: it wont record cassette sound.
Your configuration should have given you very loud distorted sound. The Mic-In on most computers is expecting a very tiny delicate mono show on the cable. Re: hissing sound
It's called you didn't get your microphone right and it's really difficult to fix in Audacity.
Yes, certainly, go for Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 has problems.

If you do get it to restart clean, stop using Audacity 1.2 immediately. The older Audacity can have significant problems on newer Macs.

Re: Hidden Audacity interfers

Re: Controlling volume
You should watch the Audacity red recording meters and boost the live show so that the loud peaks never go much over about -10 or so. That's easy to clean up later.
You said nothing about the equipment between the actor's lips and the computer.

Re: Controlling volume
Select the whole interview by clicking on the INFO panel to the left (stereo/44100). Interiew turns color. Effect > Amplify > New Peak > -1 > OK.
