Re: Recording with Tape2USB II
In general, the first time someone has trouble with Audacity 1.2, we tell them to cast it off and start using Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported, patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can be unstable on newer computers. Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 ...

Re: can't record wha happened?
So far I got from that: "Audacity Doesn't Work." We're going to need a lot more than that. What kind of machine? What are you recording? What's your Windows version? Exactly which Audacity version are you using? Pretend I'm going to record the exact same show you're recording. What am I do...

Re: clipping-top of one channel only
I don't have a terrifically high opinion of the iMic. You do have it switched to LINE right? The device is intended to amplify a "Computer Microphone" so the computer can use it. The Stereo Line-In is an afterthought. It doesn't have a Phono-In, does it? Any reason you're not using the hig...

That's a location on your home machine not an internet address, so we can't see it. If you want to send a picture, use the "Upload Attachment" instructions. Scroll down a little from the forum message entry window.

Re: making a demo of my band, need advice
One more old trick is to mix down to mono and see if it still sounds reasonable. This will also tell you if all your wiring is OK. If some of the performers change volume or appear to vanish, you may have phasing or mic cable problems. http://www.kozco.com/tech/LRMonoPhaset4.wav Listen in stereo and...

It helps a lot that the singers appear to be able to actually sing. Is that a little AutoTune in there, or can they really do that?

Re: making a demo of my band, need advice
The Recording Latency correction is negative (-244 in my case) because the computer is causing my hard drive playback to play early so that the computer delays appear to vanish. It's like back-timing your friends so you all arrive at the restaurant at the same time. "Fred is starting from home ...

Re: making a demo of my band, need advice
It's not that hard. Audacity 1.3 has an adjustment where multiple overlaying of additional audio tracks can automatically come out in perfect time with one another. It's called Recording Latency (as opposed to some of the other wacky timing problems you can have). The 10,000 foot view of this is gen...

Re: making a demo of my band, need advice
we used a metronome to get the time in everybody's head before we started, then I had the lead player do a choke strum to set the time for future tracks. If you do this forum thing long enough you pick up on what posters don't say. You never set Recording Latency, did you? You might be able to get ...
