Re: clipping-top of one channel only
I was wondering about that, too. The music on vinyl isn't flat. It's intentionally distorted so the bass notes will fit in the groove. It's precise. It follows the RIAA recommendation for frequency response "tilt." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization You can compensate for that ...

Re: Creating one audio file from 4
Most people want to split up long audio files into individual "songs" so the music CD player can select the segments with the track controls. Many Music CD Authoring Programs can accept individual music segments, allow you to arrange them in any order, and then intentionally delete the 2-s...

Re: Recording Output
how is that an update??!! - then the wizard gave up. "I need to load software and drivers now that I didn't need at the earlier installation of your computer. Please put the install CD in so I can find them." It should have also offered to go on-line and find them there. Making all the so...

Re: Recording Output
In Windows XP, it should be possible to record from Mix-Out or Stereo-Mix or something like that. Set in the Windows Control Panels -- Recording tab. WinVista and Win7 hide the settings and it's a lot more fun to find them. You're going to have to change the Windows settings to get this, and write d...

Re: after editing words out of a song, how to shorten the la
How did you take out the words? I do it by drag-selecting the word in the blue waves on the timeline and press DEL. That automatically closes up the hole and shortens the show. Be sure and make a backup WAV file of your show before you start editing and never record an edited show over old work or o...

Yes, you need to do them again.
Do tell us if I hit it. This is a very common cause of overloading distortion like you have.

Re: How to fix project
Can I predict the past? You got an adapter cable and plugged the tape deck into the Mic-In on your Windows laptop. Some laptops allow you to do that, but most don't. That connection is designed for a computer microphone, not an entertainment tape machine. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHea...

Re: How to spot a 256kbps mp3 transcoded to 320kbps
The original work was probably captured at 44100 uncompressed sample rate (not bitrate) which means the highest possible musical sound is 22KHz, generally limited to 20KHz or less. If you violate this rule, you could get playback of sounds not in the original performance.

Are you using Audacity 1.3? This sounds like some of the problems we had in Audacity 1.2.
