Re: 44100 at 16 bit limit?

The Audacity default of 44100, 32-bit floating is not a bad way to start the process because nobody can hear anything up beyond 18KHz anyway, and the extra bits let you (within reason) overload and do complex editing, filtering and processing with no significant sound damage. For just one example, i...

Re: LP to mp3 problem

I'm more than even convinced that the problem is Win7's conferencing tools. The fact that you can "fake it out" by stopping and starting at the right times means Windows thinks your music is air conditioning noise and is trying to cancel it out. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ:Recor...

Re: Help before I send files to be mastered

[* As you have described yourself as a novice I am assuming these technical errors are not deliberate avant-garde artistic effects] That's always the embarrassing point. "It sounds pretty cool. Did you mean it to come out like that?" This also dips into the One Hit Wonder thing. People st...

Re: clipping-top of one channel only

One other point. The turntable should have three wires, not two. There should be a thin black ground wire usually with a fork lug on the end. Connect that to the screw ground connection on the UFO202. That's something else missing from the other technique. No place to connect the ground lug -- and t...

Re: Recording Output

You need to be in Windows Control Panels with Audacity closed to get these services. Mix-Out (or whatever your computer calls it) is a service that runs Record and Play at the same time in order to capture YouTube and other internet sound. The service is a dance between the internal sound card, the ...

Re: can't record wha happened?

I think we're as far as we can go without either trying your microphone on a different computer, or trying a different microphone on your computer. If I had to guess at it just based on the majority of the symptoms, your microphone is going in the toilet (technical term). If it was a straight USB, c...

Re: can't record wha happened?

Also, everytime I try that effect, the decibel setting gets higher and higher. The Amplify control works upside down. The number is the amount of work needed to bring the show peaks up to 0. As your show sinks into the sunset, that number will get bigger and bigger. everything got loud, including t...

Re: Help before I send files to be mastered

That's very nice. Good, wide-band production with crisp highs and thumping lows. Good balanced mix. The vocal gets lost and buried, that's intentional, right? A singer should not be mixing his/her own work. The object is not to hide behind the guitars. What do you call Mastering? Prepping for burnin...

Re: Low input level with no control in 1.3.14

You must have offended a deity in there somewhere. I sent my machines back to The Beginning Of Time and I can supply installers for: 1.3.5 1.3.7 1.3.8 1.3.11 1.3.12 1.3.13 I was not a willing adopter of Audacity 1.3. I stuck with 1.2.x for a very long time. why on the second recording and not the fi...

Re: clipping-top of one channel only

The tape transfers are probably OK. All the audio pathways match OK and tape doesn't do any frequency tricks that turntables do.

It's the vinyl we're concerned about. That's in trouble.
