Re: Soundwave Form Changed - Put It Back?

You can get that if you accidentally magnify the waveform. Cursor over to the vertical stripe to the left of the waves so the cursor turns into a [+] sign. Press and hold the shift key while you click. It may need multiple clicks to bring you back to normal, +1 to -1.

Re: Can't get audacity to work downloading cassettes from pl

Getting Win7 to work can be a challenge. We wrote a bit on this. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Windows_Problems While a connection between your cassette machine and the Mic-In seems to work, it's not at all ideal. If you're happy with the results, then you should continue on...

Re: using my webcam as a microphone

We've had really good luck with that, too, on several different web cams. Having the web cam deliver one integrated stream is a special purpose camera for, I'm guessing, surveillance or security. Not entertainment. Remember the constant problems we have with people getting stuck with Windows Confere...

Re: recording start of tape

In Audacity 1.3, you could have Transport > Sound Activated Recording turned on by accident. You should be able to press record in Audacity and have it record dead silence for the half hour it takes you to go eat lunch and then come back and press play on the tape machine and get that, too, beginnin...

Re: Remove background music from TV shows, etc?

If you rip the AC3 and the show is in 5.1 surround, chances are the music is on the surround channels FL, FR, RL and RR, and the voices are in the Center. You can take it apart that way.

Re: Remove background music from TV shows, etc?

The short answer is no. You can't take apart a mixed show. This is one exception and that's Effect > Vocal Removal. If you have a very good quality stereo show and the singer or speaker is in the exact left-to-right middle, then the software will remove the voice and deliver most of the music as mon...

Re: Improving recorder too far from source

Straight amplification would actually work if you were in an echo-free recording room or maybe outside. You, however, are listening to the echoes from the walls of the church. That's what gives organs and chorus performances that "cathedral sound." It's permanent. Echoes from the walls is ...

Re: Can not control input volume

Because setting the microphone level is generally done at the analog level, before the digital converters grab the sound. Once the show is USB, it's too late. You can still change the volume, but it involves digital scaling and such and it's a much more involved activity. It's not unusual for the mi...

Re: HELP: How do I choose source

I think as step one, I would use Audacity 1.3, not 1.2. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/update.txt Then you need to set your computer preferences to Record Internet Audio. -- Record Internet http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wik...
