Re: no sound in stereo mix
Yes, there are reasons. There's a very good chance you won't be able to get the volume down far enough to avoid damage and overload and a host of other problems. Oh, and you should be on Audacity 1.3, not 1.2. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/update.txt http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/windowsRe...

Re: Suggestions for Spoken Word Recording
I think you're using the wrong metaphor. I think trying to reduce a recording studio to a foolproof field capture is pretty much doomed to failure. I'd do something like this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg You can get a USB version of this which is completely independent of ...

Re: Freezing during recording, resumes with a missing part
You don't need to go nuts. The UCA-202 is $30 and should solve all of your immediate problems. Some of the sound cards at work are totally terrible, so we use these things a lot.

Re: Automating operations in Audacity
We do warn people about trying to do production in MP3. As long as your final destination is a Music CD or WAV archive file, then you should be OK. One of the problems with MP3 -- particularly downloads -- is the inability to edit/filter/correct and make another MP3. MP3 sound damage is cumulative a...

Re: When is Inverse RIAA appropriate?
I don't necessarily know what "Inverse RIAA" is, but music will not fit in a photograph record groove, so a standard method of suppressing bass notes and boosting high notes was devised. By the RIAA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_curve This compensation is applied at the recording maki...

Re: Freezing during recording, resumes with a missing part
If you're on a laptop, RAM may cause more problems than it solves. Audacity is a complete slave to the computer running it. If the computer or sound card stops providing a bitstream to record, Audacity will stop dead. All that and you're using your computer wrong. You have an extreme example, but ma...

Re: Export Multiple Issues
Did you put special characters in the filename? "MyGreatMusic1/7/12" is not a valid filename on many computers. No punctuation marks past dash and underscore. MyGreatMusic20120107 is OK.

Re: effects preview running slow
That usually means the compute is slowing down. Are you running out of hard drive space? When was the last time you defragmented or did an error test? If you've been at this for a long time on a regular, non-production computer, then it could be filling up. Have you started to use a new set of filte...
