There may be a software solution. Download and install Audacity 1.3. Audacity 1.2 does not play well with Vista/Win7.

If you Saved a Project with a segment selected, then that's how it's going to open next time. Select the top track by clicking in the sound specification window at left and press Home -- or it may just go home by itself.

I saved it and a message came up that my computer was out of space (even though I started working on it with 2.5 gb of free space. Not even remotely enough. No matter which systems you are using, an extraordinarily common problem is trying to put dates in the filenames. The slash marks drive the computer nuts and may damage your files and folders. No punctuation in filenames.
