You should probably try reinstalling Audacity, and you do it without reinstalling Audacity. If you reset your Audacity Preferences file and then restart, Audacity should return to First Birthday without shuffling software around.

Re: It isn't working
The gain control shouldn't have anything to do with the USB turntable volume, unless the turntable itself has a volume control. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. Is the turntable (USB-Something or Other) visible there and is it selected? Does the blue ball sound meter jump to th...

Re: export issue, saving as .wav but exported as 'file'
The first idea is to stop Windows from hiding filenames from you. Windows cuts off filename extensions, so the filename you see isn't the full one, and worse, it scrambles file type identities. Go into Windows setups and force it to show you the full filename and not hide anything. I think it's stil...

Windows does this. See this response for someone else with similar problems.

Re: newbie needs help!....
Step one is stop using Audacity 1.2. It's very old and unsupported on newer computers.

Re: Line In records one channel only
You have an actual blue Stereo Line-In on your computer? Most laptops don't. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCLaptopSound.jpg But if you do, make sure Audacity is set to record stereo in Audacity Preferences > Devices > Recording . You posted in Audacity 1.3 forum. If you're really using Aud...

Re: What pidcat equipment should I buy?
Sorry. Missed a step. If you're on a Windows laptop, you'll probably need a way to get the mixer into the machine. Most Windows laptops do not have Stereo Line-In, so you'll either need the USB version of the mixer.. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PV6USB or a stereo to USB asdapter like the ...

Re: What pidcat equipment should I buy?
You can't buy enough hardware for that, so we'll have to resort to internet trickery. Each performer is at home and logs into the same Skype session (free). They perform to each other using headphones and the built-in microphone on each laptop (free), but the trick is they record their own high-qual...

Re: listen w/o recording
It's not obvious. In Audacity Preferences set Recording to Playthrough. In the main program, click once in the red recording meters. After a second or two, both recording and playback meters should wake up and you should be able to hear yourself. But probably not in real time. People trying Overdubb...

Re: Recording of Skype Call - caller only
as if the device (my mic) didn't exist. That's not what you said the first time. You said you recorded very badly. What you have now is perfectly normal. Skype takes over the sound channels and will not let you record both sides no matter which sound device or adjustment you make. One of our poster...
