Probably the same no-model-number microphone I have. Mine only works if you set Audacity for Mono, not stereo in preferences. 44100, 16-bit.

If it vanishes from there, then the machine may be losing communications through either a bad cable, connection or defective equipment. You can tell by the people rushing to your aid that it's difficult or impossible to do that in Audacity. Audacity does not do production in real time.

Audacity Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough. You may need to restart Audacity.

Also select [X] Overdubbing to hear your old tracks while you record new ones.
