Re: Sound card question (newbie)

You can use a UCA-202 between the mixer or preamp and the computer. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.jpg It does very well and it's usually far better than built-in sound cards. This is under re-write, so ignore the typos and bad sentences. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity...

Re: Remote interviews

There's a YouTube video out there that tells you how to do this with just a normal Mac, but he's recording the Mac speakers and the quality isn't all that great. You could try that.

Here's one: Call Recorder for Mac.

Re: Remote interviews

Yes. If you're willing to use the bubbling skipping Skype sound, then there are software packages (other than Audacity) that can record Skype for post production -- in Windows. Nobody ever asked about doing this in Mac-land. On Windows, Total Recorder can be used and Pamela software is very good. I ...

Re: CAN'T INSTALL ICON IN OS X DOCK

Do the rest of the icons move out of the way and the new one just doesn't "stick?"

From Applications, Control click on Audacity and make alias. Drag the alias to the desktop. Now drag it to the dock.

Re: Grounding-like sound when recording 45rpm records

Did you save the receipts? Everybody knows these things are throw-away turntables. Play your last record and put the whole thing in the trash can. So they're not known for their high quality or stability. Generally, the lowest cost wins. It sounds like the ground or shield inside the tone arm failed...

Re: DC offset when recording

You should have a jumper connection between the Green Line-Out and the Blue Line-In. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/soundCardFinal2.jpg That's assuming the Blue Line-In is, in fact, Line-In. We got a series of sound cards where they scrambled the colors and it caused no end of grief, distort...

Re: Difficulty to adjust recording level

Yes. You should not be using any analog connections at all. If you connect the USB from the turntable to the computer, it should show up in the Audacity drop-down menus. You can select it there. There are no volume controls with this service. If it doesn't arrive, you should go into Windows Control ...

Re: No sound playing .mp3

Try unplugging the turntable and play it again. Sometimes Windows likes to record your turntable and then play the sound back to it, which is clearly not going to work.
