Re: MONITORING AND RECORDING FROM AN INPUT SOURCE

You should avoid YELLING at us. If you open Audacity and click once on the red recording meters, they will wake up and monitor the incoming sound. You can set Audacity Recording Preferences to [X]Playthrough and the playback side of Audacity will run as well, letting you hear the work. This will giv...

Re: Mono track to Stereo

It would be nice to have some effects applied automatically. It would be nice to have some effects you can assign to hotkeys instead of individually launching them each time. Yes, that's an Audacity product request, best since everybody's idea of desirable effects is different. at least part of it ...

Re: reseting after export

There once was a setting which would close Audacity when you closed the last project or clip. We would regularly get complaints about it triggering at the wrong time. I can't find that setting anymore. I close timelines out and then File > New to start over. Is that what you're after? There's even a...

Re: newbie here

Under 'Transport" in Audacity 1.3. Also hotkey Shift-R.I don't think Audacity 1.2 had it -- another good reason to upgrade to Audacity 1.3

Re: Slow Playback

Tiger on a what? iBook? If you can play a simple track in good time and the system bogs down at multiple tracks, then yes, chances are good your system can't keep up. Audacity likes to do a lot of its work in memory and if memory runs out, the system shifts over to swapping in the hard drive. It wor...

Re: multi track sync

I imagine I’m importing a time code with each .wav file, Unless your system explicitly says so, I wouldn't assume that. SMPTE time code and other video services are special beasts with intentional provision for burned-in running time or time of day. That's not normal in straight audio land. SMPTE t...

It was turntable >receiver>speakers and play records. Yes, but if you ever tried to record that process, that was no walk in the park, either. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tutorial_-_Copying_tapes,_LPs_or_minidiscs_to_CD http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Recording_with_USB_turntables Koz

Re: Voice Overs for Video Games

I also wrote a thing about problems of straight recording on Windows computers. You need to solve these problems before you go on to overdubbing.

This is under construction.

Re: Voice Overs for Video Games

If you can get the game track to play in Audacity, you can use Overdubbing to produce a new voice track in sync with the show. I wrote about several ways to do this in special hardware and two ways to do it in pure software.
