Re: we need help
I know you're asking yourself, "Why doesn't somebody build these adapters?" Because that whole process is the price of a modest XLR microphone. And somebody does. I think I found a supplier in Britain somewhere... You should be putting that whole thing inside a sealed metal box. Remember, ...

And of course you can still get killed here. In this picture, this pink connector is the microphone. http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/PCHeadset.jpg If you're headed for a sound mixer, you'll need the exact opposite of this. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/UnbalBalAdapter.jpg It's male instead o...

Re: we need help
Calm down people. No, it's not quite right. (now that the picture is visible). The + side of the battery goes through the 2200 ohm resistor and connected to the ring of the jack. That's the supply for the electronics that makes the electret element work. Condenser microphones produce some very nice ...

Re: Locating time of recording on Macintosh
Then you need the zoom tools. I have two hour recordings and I would be lost without zooming. Command-F to make sure you're looking at the Full show. Drag-select the first third of the timeline and Command-E, Zoom to sElection . Command-3 zooms out slightly and there are more zoom tools available. T...

Re: Locating time of recording on Macintosh
There is running time along the top edge of the timeline. If you know something important happened fifteen minutes after the beginning, it's simple to point to that time with your cursor. Audacity does not support time of day. Then set a Label at that point. Control-B Then find the other point and s...

Re: Recording level too high & clipping even at 0 master vol
The UFO202 volume control is for headphone volume. The extra ground screw connection is for the thin black grounding lead on your turntable. This screw connection is missing on the UCA202 which is a simple Line-In/Line-Out device. We picked the UCA202 because it seems to be the simplest and cheapest...

Re: Fine editing of clip boundaries
I believe Undo is the accepted way to go. I can think of time-consuming, painful ways of doing this without actually executing a cut, but that's the simplest. Koz

Re: Aligning Tracks
Right then. You need to stick with us as we crank through this. The ATR35 microphone is a cousin to the Radio Shack 3013 we use all the time at work. The LR44 battery can be replaced by the Radio Shack 357 Silver battery for stiffer voltage regulation, longer working life and slightly higher voltage...

Re: Recording level too high & clipping even at 0 master vol
Down at the end of "Connections" there is a recommendation for a USB Sound Card that we like. It provides your computer the Stereo Line-In that you need to record your work. The Behringer UCA-202 http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/peaveyUCA202Lenovo.jpg You'll need to read through the ...

Re: Recording level too high & clipping even at 0 master vol
PC with a dedicated Line In to record my records but now I am using a brand new, HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook with a Mic / Line In input, Windows 7. This could be fun. It's possible, because of the terminology, that you have one input connection that you can switch in software between Mono Mic-In and S...
