Re: Recording only what is coming in through the mic

You are doing the trick where you coordinate the show through Skype, but the actual show sound is an edit of the two very high-quality local recordings? You are getting both voices in your recording? Loud? Is he using the same headset arrangement you are? Same model number? What's the possibility yo...

Re: Accidentally Recorded Talking

No. That's one of the four reliable ways to kill a show. See: 4.

The four horsemen of audio recording:

-- Echoes and room reverberation
-- Overload and Clipping
-- Compression Damage
-- Background Conversations

Re: What effect is best to produce best quality vocals?

While it's fun to think you can solve most audio problems with a filter or effect, if you didn't start out with an excellent recording, you're pretty much doomed. For example, you can make a voice sound crisper and clearer with Effect > Equalizer, but unless you started with a perfect recording, the...

Re: How do you make vocals sound like an instrument?

No, that's not exactly what it says in the title. If you have the vocal part of a song all by itself, then it's a snap with the Vocoder Effect to make a singing guitar, for example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR_Bjf-a5rs However, separating a single voice from a mixed song is difficult/impossibl...

Re: Hum/Noise w/o

Do you use Skype? Skype takes over your sound pathways while it's running and sometimes doesn't give them back. When you launched Audacity 1.3, did you get the Welcome Opening Screen, or did it dive right into a normal session? Audacity leaves setup files behind when you uninstall it so you don't h...

Re: For recording audio books

A separate recorder will allow you to sit in a nice quiet, echo-free room for the recording. Doesn't the Zoom series have a stand socket on the bottom? You can get a simple mic stand like this... http://www.kozco.com/tech/MicTests/studioLayout.jpg That one is an "On Stage Stands" unit. I c...

Re: Improving audio on recorded lecture

Room Echo (reverb) is one good way to kill your show. There's no "key" or single thing to tell the software to attack. A room echo is the actor's own voice coming back to the microphone multiple times. You can't tell the software to remove the actor from himself. I got limited success with...

Re: Combo Mac Mini / Audacity / Soundflower no sound capture

It's Line-Out to SoundFlower. The Mac Line-Out device has to play to the SoundFlower Line-In Device. Then you record from SoundFlower. One additional step, set Audacity Preferences > Recording to Software Playthrough so you can hear what you're doing. If you don't, you'll get a show, but you won't b...

This is a lot more typical and even better than most. After and before:
