Traditionally, Audacity Does Not Play Well With Others. That's one reason it's not a good package to record Skype.

Forget Audacity 1.2. It's old, no longer supported, and can create problems on your computer.

Open a fresh Audacity.
Generate > Tone (Anything audible. 400Hz works. Five seconds.)
Don't do anything to it. Just export as MP3. Can you hear that in iTunes?

What's the show? How long is the show? Stereo? How many tracks?
When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive? How full is your hard drive? How many things do you have open at once?

How big is the machine -- processor speed -- amount of memory?
