Re: How to use a particular file format.
That is an odd duck. I wonder why 4 bit? Are you sure that number is OK? Audacity will not open them? Is there a software package that came with the device or is available for it? You can try to add FFMpeg software to your Audacity to make it compatible with many more sound formats. http://audacityt...

Re: Probably a simple question, but I'm confused nonetheless
Vista and Win7 make it harder and harder to find the services and settings to do this. The problem is Windows makes business machines and establishing the recursive pathways needed to record YouTube makes corporate conferencing unstable. Sometimes you just can't get there and you have to add softwar...

Re: Line In Stereo Fault
Some laptops have a blue stereo Line-In socket. Engineering up on the sixth floor has one, but it's not normal. Is it blue, or pink? No color? What kind of laptop is it? Model number? A huge portion of the complaints about mono sound under these conditions are from the audio jack being Mic-In which ...

Re: pre record call
Yes, but the trick is getting the sound into Audacity. If you're on Skype, you need one of the Skype recording programs and if you're on a land-line phone, you need interface hardware. I don't know of anybody who's found a way to record a cellphone.

If you record a third track, do tracks two and three match, not correct, but match?

Re: No sound during recording
Audacity > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough. If you're on a microphone, you need to make sure you're wearing headphones to avoid feedback effects. Koz

Re: Recording multiple inputs
Normally, FireWire is valuable because it keeps all the connected devices separate and independent of each other. That's a problem here because you want to smooch them all together. Audacity will only record from one device no matter how many channels it has. The problem with many devices is they ar...

Re: Line In Stereo Fault
Two problems right away: -- Is it an older plain Turntable or a USB Turntable? USB Turntable analog out is compensated for vinyl RIAA playback distortion, Regular turntables are not and take special electronics. -- Most Windows laptops do not have Line-In. They have Mic-In which is mono and easily d...

Re: Problem doing multitrack recording
If you were on Win7, I'd know exactly where to put you, but you're not. In any event, just to cover the bases, the common thread through this problem is you're using speakers. That's expressly forbidden while you're overdubbing because of the almost certain contamination between the playback tracks ...

Re: Splitting 1 file into 2
The aup file is an Audacity Project Manager text file, not a sound file. It points to the _data folder with the same name, and that one is huge. If you have to do production or management, use the Project or a WAV file, not MP3. MP3 is an end product and you can't make another MP3 from it -- at leas...
