Re: How do I isolate a vocal track on Audacity?

Audacity doesn't have Vocal Isolation tools. You might try Voice Trap.

I believe Voice Trap will fail if you have a mono show. Open in Audacity and make sure the left and right sound meters don't match.

Re: USB interface white noise

I tried to export the sound into a WAV file for you, but when the file was played it was silent. Step 1. Force Windows to show you full filenames -- name plus extension. Windows' shenanigans work when everything goes OK, but it's deadly on troubleshooting. -- Hidden File Extensions -- Start > My Co...

Re: USB interface white noise

(sidenote, should a guitar be plugged straight into a mixer?) Either way. Actually three ways. - Play the guitar into a performance space/room and mic it with a conventional microphone, through the mixer and on to the recording system. - Plug an electric guitar pickup into the High Level Input of a...

Also reference Chris's Compressor... -- Chris's Compressor http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ He created a show sound compressor (and plugin) that mimics in an amazing way the process that radio stations use so you don't have to constantly run the car volu...

Re: USB interface white noise

Give us a shot at it. What kind of noise? HIss? SHSHSHSHSH? Buzz? Crackle Newspaper? Popping? The low hanging fruit is: are you going through a USB hub. USB Audio Hates That. Home run to the computer always. USB systems are basically nice analog audio mixers with a USB coder/driver jammed on the end...

Anyone have any ideas?
Yes, but not helpful. You can't split apart voices in a mixed recording.

You missed the important part of the description. How did you connect the Art preamp to the computer?
