Re: is it possible to remove the guitar from a song?
There's nothing for the software to grab. People always point to the spectrum analyzer with the idea of separating higher and lower sounds. Musical overtones and harmonics step on each other and that's why that doesn't work. If you were playing music with laboratory tone generators, then yes. Those ...

Re: How to match voice using Audacity
Thoughts? It's a great Feature Request for a future product. There is a cousin request. Right now there is no relationship between Analyze > Spectrum Analyzer and Effect > Equalizer. That's another 'make this one like that one' tool. Most people who ask that question want to sound like Don Lafontai...

Re: Using Audacity to 'fix' hot CDs
i have some CDs that are brick-walled Meaning what? They're amateur music from say a concert recorded on a camcorder and pressed to disk? <<<DeAmplify the waves.>>> Reduce the volume, yes. All that does is reduce the loudness, but you'll need to do that to give succeeding tools a place to work. <<<...

Re: microphone does not work
If she can record music on the computer but not the microphone, that means you need to change the system to see the microphone. You can do that with the Audacity Device Toolbar. http://manual.audacityteam.org/help/manual/man/device_toolbar.html You do not want WAV-Out, Stereo-Mix, or What-U-Hear. Th...

Re: Recording Line IN
I had WireTap but they changed the product so much I did not like it. I use SoundFlower now. You assign the music to SoundFlower instead of the speakers and then record from SoundFlower. It's simple and it works very well. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/User:BillWharrie/Using_Soundflower_to_recor...

Re: Recording Inbound from two sources?
The data transfer method is the only way to produce a completely undamaged "Broadcast Radio" production without the Skype delays, bubbling, gargling and honking. That one step is the difference between "for real" and kids fooling around. Koz

Re: one-click clipping removal?
Have you actually tried Clip Fix? There is no way to remove clipping. Clipping is one sure way to kill a show. Clip Fix works by best guess estimation of where the waveform would have been had it not been damaged. It can only do very simple waveshape guesses and will never be able to restore the ful...

Re: Small Gaps in Recording from LPs?
Yes. I think you should tell us exactly what's going on between the needle and the computer. USB turntable? Do you go through a USB hub with other equipment? That will produce little gaps like that. You were on the right track, but may have been looking in the wrong place.

Did you leave out a word or two? use Audacity to record a podcast of sorts between myself and others, guests and the like. ...calling in on Skype. Yes, Skype is notoriously hard to manage by software other than Skype, and yes typically, you only get one side. You can try Pamela, Total Recorder, or S...

Re: recording through microphone input
Your laptop is trying to help you make a business telephone or Skype call to the corporate home office -- whether you want to or not. Win7 and maybe Vista before it has programming to suppress background noises like air conditioner, pump, and fans. Any sustained note or sound will trigger it. The ot...
