Unable to open lame or FFMpeg
2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xenon Mac OS-X 10.6.8 Audacity 2.0 I needed a fresh install of Audacity to custom export the sound track from a short video show. Audacity installed OK and seems to run, but can't find either the FFMpeg or Lame libraries, even though they're in the correct folders/directories...

Re: noise removal for phone conversation
The kiss of death is "I can barely hear her..." The noise removal tools will not help you if the valuable work is almost not there at all. It's not a forensics tool. The desirable performance has to be very much louder than the noise. The profile step in Noise Reduction is very important. ...

Re: Change pitch without sounding like a chipmunk??
That door you just walked through was the entrance to the group struggling to "sound ballsy like an announcer" and transpose woman/man/child and back. It's a popular place. The best you can do with the "Change" tools is move one or two piano notes before the work starts sounding ...

Re: eliminating hiss or hum
Few of these tools magically know what hum and buzz is. They all use your instructions to surgically and blindly remove pieces of the show in hopes that what's left is artistically valuable. For example, if there is a lighting buzz component at 360Hz (common in the US), then a piano note at 360Hz (F...

Re: Newbie question - mute speakers but keep recording
Depending on how your particular streaming works, you turn the volume down with the volume control at the speaker. If the speakers have no volume control, you can unplug them. Some Internet Recording systems work at the analog sound card level and they fix the volumes in the whole system. They are l...

You mean like in Final Cut where you type...
+20000 [enter]
...and the cursor moves forward two minutes (two minutes, no seconds and no frames)?
Not that I know of.

Re: External Record Start/Stop Control
Bluetooth keyboards. Simulating keypresses is not straightforward and Audacity does not work well over a network -- although Remote Desktop programs could be tried. Audacity hates sending hot audio data over a network. A keypress is two commands: Press and Release. That's how the computer knows whet...

Re: Can't load Module
Audacity does not accept all plugins and additions. The ones that demand fancy graphics or GUIs are not supported and may create problems. If you hit one (or more) that fail, then Audacity may be left in an awkward state. You pointed to three plugins. How many were you installing? Audacity may slow ...

Re: AUDIO NOT WORKING
PLEASE DON'T SHOUT AT US. If Audacity seems to be recording the show OK and you get wiggly blue waves and the sound meters bounce, then you may just need the playthrough settings changed. Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough (select). Play music and your speakers should wake up. Koz

Re: importing a song from a cd
Sound on a Music CD is not in generic computer file format in order to save space. You have to "rip" the music and put it into a form that Audacity will open and edit. You can use QuickTime for Windows or a stand-alone windows program like CDex. The complicated, painful way to do it is to ...
