Re: Using Audacity as a Db meter

You're looking for a Sound Pressure Level meter. You can force Audacity to approximate one of those, but you will never get "real" dBSPL numbers. Just relative ones. This sound is 3dB louder than that one. How loud are they? No idea. This is a newer version of the ones we use and there isn...

Re: OMG!!! HELP!!!

If you still have the show on the timeline in blue waves, then Export > WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit PCM. That will give you a very high quality, stand-alone sound file independent of Audacity. Koz

Re: low cost mixer

If that's all you're doing, you may not need a mixer. An electric guitar pickup signal is very close to music line level and you should be able to use a Behringer UCA-202 to digitize the guitar, and manage overdubbing/multitrack. Plug your guitar -- or even your amp if it has the right connections -...

Re: How to transfer Audacity recording to CD/DVD

Assuming the show is in Audacity (you didn't actually say so), Export as WAV 16-bit PCM. Open that music file in Windows Media and follow the instructions to burn a Music CD (I'm not in Windows). Audacity will not burn anything. Do Not go to MP3 in the middle as that causes some sound degeneration. ...

Re: Using my back up

As a fuzzy general rule, as long as the AUP file and the associated _DATA folder are in the same folder or directory, the show should open. Try it with one show just to verify it works. If you depend on multiple external sound files, then the problem is much more serious. You have to intentionally c...

Re: Echo or Off Timing Recording?

If you only have one microphone that does this, then the easy fix is to sell it. You can use the "Change" tools within Audacity to slow down or speed up the track, but they never come out perfect and you will need to do that to every recording you make from now to forever. There are compro...

Re: Echo or Off Timing Recording?

If you record two digital things, then sample rate sync becomes a serious issue. Nobody can maintain perfect 48000. If your mic is running at 48001 and the camera is running at 47998, then the composite is eventually going to drift out of sync. When you use Apple Aggregate Device to get two USB micr...

Re: Smaller Files

MP3 always produces sound damage. That's how it works. Your job is to strike the balance between file sizes and theatrical quality.

Re: Smaller Files

You missed the supremely important piece of this. How long were the shows? Two hours? Were they in mono or stereo? Did you have two blue waves on the timeline or one? In general the absolutely best you can do is reduce the stereo show to mono. Tracks > Stereo Track to mono. Then Export the show MP3 ...

Re: Help with Radiodj and Audacity

a Radio automation/animation software that would let me put in music and sound bits on a hot key so that I could just click and play and have it come up when I wanted it to. Come up where? Where does the sound come from when you press the hot key? Are you listening to the mixer with your headphones...
