Re: Background noise and turning off external mic..
That cross thing works a lot better on Macs than it does on Windows laptops. The Macs with two connectors tend to have Stereo Line-In and Stereo Line-Out, compliments of each other. Windows Laptops have Stereo Line-Out (Headphone), but most have Mono Mic-In set for very low level, delicate microphon...

Re: Tracks missing from exported mp3 file
Describe the show. Where the flutes missing? Violins? The vocals? Where did you get the clips from for your show? Did you record all of them yourself -- keyboard, guitar, vocal?

Dual 2GHz G5
OS-X 10.4.11
Audacity 2.0.0
Right-Click on Levaya_H_Pollock_orig.mp3 > Open With > Audacity.
BAM!
"The Application Quit Unexpectedly.."
The 37 minute show opens normally with FFMpeg Import.

Re: iRig and Audacity.
You can hear the guitar through the amp, right? Do you have enough adapters to get the guitar pickup directly into the sound card? If you really hog down on a musical chord on the guitar, the signal from the pickup is almost line level. It will distort seriously and overload if you try to plug it in...

You drag-select a portion of a clip and press DEL, right? Then you drag-selection a portion of a clip and silence it with Command-L?

Re: stereo recordings fromm cassettes
The obvious answer is to set Audacity preferences to record in Stereo, but I bet the problem is more basic than that. What is the cassette player and how do you have it connected to your computer?

Re: Unable to open lame or FFMpeg
This is the layout. For some reason, the simple lame module loaded immediately and without fuss. Not so the FFMpeg. Simply nothing happens. I Point to: /Applications/Audacity/FFmpeg_v0.6.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX/libavcodec.52.dylib Which is what the instructions say ( see pix). When I select and instal...

Re: Recovering "odd" .wav files from CD
The chances are outstandlingly good that they're not WAV files. You should change Windows so it stops hiding filename extensions. This will go a long way to telling you what you actually have. -- Hidden File Extensions -- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > [ ] Hide Extensions for ...

Re: Import 3ga
Audacity is a free, open source program and doesn't pay licensing. MPEG1, Layer III creation (MP3) is licensed software by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft . The easiest, most graceful way around format problems that occur is to rely on third party, open source software like "lame" and FFMpeg. You ...
