Don't be bashful about details. Which laptop? Model numbers? Which bass? Which Pickups?
I'm going to extend the question a little. You want to play bass along with other sound tracks and record the performance, right?

Re: Vocal Remover
You changed music. Vocal Removal fails a lot more often than it works. You lucked out big time if it worked for you multiple times. It doesn't work on mono shows, highly compressed shows, shows with the singer not in the middle and shows with stereo effects added to the voice. That's pretty much eve...

Re: USB Device Not Recognized
Can Windows see it? Start > Control Panels > Sounds and Devices > Hardware. If the device isn't there, then nobody can see it. Audacity depends on Windows services working. Try another USB connection or maybe another cable. Unplug and replug several times. Does the computer "bong" when you...

Re: 3 HOUR Audio
Right. So it's a Windows Media file, and that explains all the symptoms. It might open if you got your FFMpeg working. Go into Audacity Preferences > Libraries and see if both of the library settings are happy.

Re: Lost important recording
Timer recording is not one of our more fuzzy-warm features. I have personal scars from unfortunate assumptions that the programmers made. I cancelled the timer record function and pressed record again. But you didn't press Stop. That may have killed you right there. You left the first recording job ...

Re: Removing vibrato from old cassette tape recordings
We can wait for some of the other elves, but I'm guessing no. Unlike noise and hum, there isn't a sample distortion for Audacity to chew on and figure out what to do. Koz

Re: Audacity Already Running
Just checking. I see you're using the Roaming install. Audacity used to have a "portable" install, I'm guessin' that's the same thing. Audacity is famous for leaving bits of itself behind when you uninstall it. Our line is you don't reinstall Audacity by reinstalling Audacity. You delete o...

Re: Recording four tracks simultaneously
As a general, fuzzy idea, Audacity records one stereo show using Windows Drivers and software. People routinely complain that they have a bazillion channel sound source, but they are presented to Windows as multiple stereo pairs, and Audacity will only manage one stereo pair at a time. Macs can mana...
