Re: low input volume

Are you using the S/PDIF connection? DAT machines speak SDI -- Serial Digital Interface. They are designed to plug right in next to digital television station video equipment, Digital BetaCAM, DVCam etc. The standard is similar, but not identical to Sony/Philips Digital Interface. The "VU Zero&...

Re: How to generate non-linear chirps?

What you have is remarkably good. The hills and valleys echoes sell it immediately. Well, yes, if it's a mechanical siren, the motor torque backs away as the speed approaches normal alert, so the upsweep is non-linear. Are you in Audacity 2.0? 2.0 has some impressive change-over-time tools you may b...

my 2.5 GHz Intel Core Duo w/ 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM computer And which computer is this exactly? I'm typing on a Mac Mini. Just curious, after you successfully complete your enormous capture session and you press stop, then what? You're very near the limit of file sizes for many major file formats...

Re: 14hour recording crashed before saving...

I believe your chances of recovery go way up if you use Audacity 2.0 for both recording and recovery. Great Strides have been made on the recovery front and there have been some very strong discussions about what Audacity should do under emergency conditions. Keeping in mind, of course, that emergen...

Re: Making Ringtones

You can ignore the metadata box and just OK it. You can also set Audacity to stop showing you the box.

Also, while you're recording, the red recording meters bounce. Those are the confidence meters that tell you that Audacity properly received the audio. Did they stop bouncing?

Re: Noob - Chunks of recording get cut out

I know the first objection is going to be that you're using Audacity 1.3.12 which is not even the best of the obsolete programs. Get Audacity 2.0 from here. http://audacityteam.org/download/ What happens to the blue waves on the timeline during the gaps? As you play the work, the cursor should move ...

when played back, played about 20% faster than it should. Any way to get you to measure that error with good accuracy? We appear to have a sample rate error somewhere, but no idea where. Knowing exactly what the speed change is would be a big help. If you capture something from YouTube, tell us exa...

Re: Noise Cancellation question-creating an inverted sound w

It's a nice concept. If you do manage to get the cancellation to work (see PGA) it's only going to work in one place in the room -- the place where you put the microphone. The room contributes to sound change as you move around, so the cancellation sound is only going to be valid for one location. A...
