Re: Simple Audacity Forum Voice Test
I just have to get this audio book recorded soon You submitted a short audition to ACX, right? We can do OK with predicting what ACX is going to say, but it's not 100% and there have been nasty surprises. For one messy example, the specification that your background noise be -60dB (1000 times quiet...

Re: Simple Audacity Forum Voice Test
So I've been recording in stereo as you suggested, and delete the second stereo track when I go to edit. I think you missed a step. Use the drop-down menu to the left of the stereo show and Split Stereo to Mono. After you delete the dead track, you're left with "real mono" which is a sing...

Re: Recovering Audacity .aup project files that were not saved
I think you're stuck. You should save a Project or Export a sound file when you get done editing and before closing Audacity. If you didn't do either of those things, then that's the end of the world. Where did the show sound come from? If you still have all the original sound files and works, then ...

Re: Mic volume query for Audacity 2.4.2 on a Windows 10 machine
The levels are not so much stopping at 0.5 as appearing to record quietly Recording quietly is normal for home microphones. Quiet recording causes you to post messages on help forums. Recording loudly can cause overload and obvious, permanent distortion and a desire to send the microphone back. No ...

Re: Mic volume query for Audacity 2.4.2 on a Windows 10 machine
If you do that and it starts working, you can convert to a mono track with the drop-down menu system on the left. Split Stereo to Mono.
Delete the dead track.

Re: Mic volume query for Audacity 2.4.2 on a Windows 10 machine
levels only peak at 0.5 (definitely no danger of clipping!) maximum. Like that? https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/MinusSixdBClipping.jpg Can you get higher volume if you really yell into the microphone? Yelling is valid. Never blow into a microphone. Having the blue waves forced stopping at 0...

Re: Audacity loves my mic, hates my music
Windows comes out of the box all set for Comm, Chat, and Conferencing. That usually means auto noise reduction, echo suppression and other voice processing. Auto Noise Reduction hates music. Dig in the Windows setups and see if you can find "Windows Enhancements" and turn them off. https:/...

Re: Simple Audacity Forum Voice Test
Do post back as you try things. It counts if you can make it vanish, if you can reduce it, or if you can make it louder. Remember, we're doing technical servicing from multiple time zones away, so don't hide anything. Here's a quick and easy test. Start a recording and reach up and touch the microph...

Re: ACX Check Issues
You're going to need to come up with more loud. Note how tall the blue waves are on your sound file and how tall they are after I mastered it (starting at 2). This is after.
